Job Summary
This is a Community Service Work Study student employment position. Applicants must have Federal Work Study funds in their Financial Aid package.The Community Work-Study Assistant for Visual Accessibility Services will play a vital role in supporting Accessible Education Services by ensuring the accessibility of course materials, converting documents to accessible formats, and assisting students with various assistive technologies, and providing accurate exam reading services, This position is ideal for a student who is detail-oriented, reliable, and passionate about accessibility and inclusivity with a commitment to supporting students' independence and equal access. The role requires strong reading and verbal communication skills, technical aptitude, and desire to learn technology and federal guidelines for accessible documents and course material.
Schedule: Weekdays during normal business hours, generally flexible, however may be times when dictated by student exam schedules. 3 days/week.

Core Duties
- Document Conversion and Accessibility: Review, format, and convert various course materials to ensure compatibility with assistive technology, adding alt text, logical reading orders, and other required accessibility modifications.
- Assistive Technology Support: Guide students in using assistive technologies such as screen readers and text-to-speech software, offering troubleshooting and setup support to foster independence.
- Exam Reading Support: Serve as a live reader during exams, reading all content verbatim and accurately following all exam protocols, ensuring neutrality and consistency in tone and pace.
- Training and Outreach: Assist in developing resources and training materials on accessibility standards and assistive technology and participate in outreach efforts to raise awareness about accessibility for students, faculty, and staff.
- Other relevant duties as assigned.
- Must have Federal Work Study Funds in Financial Aid package (contact finaid@up.edu with questions)
- Ability to follow structured guidelines, work independently, and communicate clearly.
- Consistent availability during regular hours to meet student needs.
- Experience or interest in working with assistive technology, such as screen readers or text-to-speech tools, or familiarity with digital content creation and formatting for accessibility.
- Commitment to accessibility and inclusivity, with a desire to support students with disabilities in achieving equal access to educational resources.
- Ability to remain focused and articulate clearly for extended periods, particularly during exam reading sessions.
- Ability to use digital tools for document formatting and assistive technology setup.
