Job Description
Stages at the J (The Jewish Community Center’s Youth Theatre program) offers performance opportunities for students with a wide range of talents and background in theatre.
We are currently seeking an instructor to help music direct Junie B Jones Jr for students ranging from 2nd through 5thth grade and Newsies Jr for students ranging from 6th through 12th grade.
The position will work mid January - May 4th. Schedule is part-time on Sundays 12:30pm - 4:30pm, with added dress rehearsal and show day in May.
Essential Functions
- Maintain a safe and fun environment
- Music direct and teach vocal parts for student production
- Be prepared and dressed to reflect a positive image of The J
- Have music lessons prepped prior to class arrival
- Communicate with supervisor about any problems and concerns in the classroom
- Prior experience with music directing school aged productions
- B.F.A. or other degree related to teaching or theatre preferred, but not required
- Experience teaching a variety of ages and skill levels, especially 2nd-12th grade
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students of all ages and abilities
- Basic piano and ability to read music
Physical Requirements
This job requires frequent talking and hearing. Occasional sitting, standing, walking and exposure to loud noise of sound system.
