Position Summary
The Audio Visual (AV) Support Specialist is responsible for managing, maintaining, and supporting the Denver Botanic Gardens' AV systems to ensure seamless operation during events, meetings, and exhibitions. This role involves setting up, troubleshooting, and operating AV equipment, training end-users, and maintaining AV inventory and documentation. This position also assists the DBG-IT department with help desk support and video production activities (Denver Botanic Films). The AV Support Specialist collaborates with internal departments and external vendors to deliver high-quality AV experiences.
Requirements
General Duties and Responsibilities
- AV Setup and Operation: Sets up, tests, and operates AV equipment for events, meetings, and exhibitions. Ensures high-quality audio and video output during live and virtual events.
- Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Inspects, maintains, and repairs AV equipment as needed. Troubleshoots and resolves technical issues promptly during live events.
- User Training and Support: Provides training to staff on AV system operation and best practices. Offers on-call support for AV-related issues during business hours and scheduled events. Documents AV set up instructions and encourages self-support when practical.
- Documentation and Inventory: Maintains accurate records of AV equipment configurations, inventory, and warranties. Documents standard operating procedures for common AV setups and troubleshooting steps.
- Classroom Collaboration: Collaborates with education coordinators and instructors to understand AV needs and ensure smooth execution. Coordinates with Denver Botanic Gardens teams for specialized support when necessary.
- Video Production: Conducts research for film productions and assistance on set. Does post-production editing and logging of video footage.
- Weeknights and Weekend Support: Provides AV support for scheduled evenings, early morning, and weekend events.
- Stays informed on emerging AV technologies and best practices.
- Leads and participates in AV enhancement and replacement projects.
- Supports the Denver Botanic Gardens IT team with related technical tasks and help-desk support.
- Arranges for repairs and maintenance to AV equipment.
- Works with all departments to ensure the highest quality experience for all Denver Botanic Gardens visitors.
- Maintains a positive, helpful and solution-oriented demeanor when responding to or serving staff, volunteers, members and visitors.
- Regular attendance at the worksite may be required. As with all positions at the Gardens, the incumbent must be in good performance standing to be eligible for remote work. Remote work is at the discretion of management at all times.
- Knowledge of educational classroom technology (Crestron, Extron) and networked AV control systems.
- Knowledge in AV software and tools, such as video conferencing platforms (Zoom, Teams), projectors, and sound systems.
- Must have the ability to explain technical and analytical concepts to organizational leaders.
- Proven experience specifying cameras, projectors, screens and general room design.
- Must have proven excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills in dealing with the public.
- Ability to maintain stability under pressure and able to deal well with stressful situations.
- Ability to be flexible and willing to modify plans when necessary, throughout the day.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams.
- Ability to work overtime as necessary.
- Must be a positive representative of Denver Botanic Gardens both internally and externally at all times.
- Must work with respect and cooperation at all times with fellow employees and the public.
- Must be committed to working safely at all times.
- Position requires a valid Colorado Drivers License and the ability to drive/travel to remote locations to capture video footage with camera equipment.
- High school diploma / GED and/or combination of education and equivalent experience is required.
- Associate degree or higher in Audio Visual Technology, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience specifying and configuring sound reinforcement systems.
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience with AV equipment setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience troubleshooting and configuring workstations (PC, Apple), providing technical help desk support, and assisting with video production is a plus.
Travel:
Up to 10% travel required. Requires the ability to travel to remote locations (or other Garden locations) where environment may vary significantly.

Salary Description
$22.26 - $27.83 Per Hour
