Position Summary:
As a member of the University's recruitment marketing team, the part-time graphic designer will create positive impressions of the University through front-end design and development for HC.edu web sites, web pages, emails, social media posts and other formats as needed. The graphic designer will utilize both a strong design sensibility and the ability to create effective and pleasing user interfaces and user experiences for both desktop and mobile platforms.
Job Responsibilities: Lead design to maximize the impact of high visibility Houston Christian University marketing and communication assets and initiatives Improve university's identity through the employment of best practices in branding, the development of marketing and communications products that adhere to the University's style guide and by serving as the University's expert on branding and style for digital interfaces Lead user interface design for pages and sites on the HC.edu website, including the development and presentation of wireframes, prototypes and iterative and final designs to stakeholders Lead development of visuals including photographs and bespoke graphics for web pages, broadcast emails and social media posts Lead design and development of HCU-branded templates for mass emails on the Slate and Anthology Encompass platforms Design, layout, produce and quality test broadcast emails from finished copy provided by the assistant vice president for marketing or full-time staff Provide guidance, resources and best practices in branding and web/UI design to University stakeholders involved in marketing and communication Crop, enhance, optimize and handle final placement of photography for web, email, and social media May occasionally assist with design and development of printed products including brochures, postcards and one-sheets Update existing and develop new Wordpress pages and posts in collaboration with content generators and editors and under the supervision of the assistant vice president for recruitment marketing Provide training to content generators and editors in the use of Wordpress Multisite for content updates and new page additions May occasionally train others in use of Slate and Encompass for email marketing, event RSVP pages and setup of web-based forms May assist with compilation and distribution of routine analytical reports for digital marketing (Google Analytics, virtual tour platform, Slate platform, etc.) Qualifications:
Two years' experience with Adobe Creative Suite for digital design (especially Photoshop and Illustrator) demonstrated in an online portfolio Advanced to expert level with Adobe Photoshop Experience with Adobe XD, InVision or comparable user interface development tool preferred One year experience with Wordpress Multisite or similar CMS required
Ability to create posts, pages and the ability to identify and troubleshoot problems within Wordpress preferred Skills in Wordpress theme and CSS development ideal
Effective verbal and written and communication skills Demonstrated experience with responsive design for web and email preferred Team player with demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all levels of management and constituents.
Additional Information
In exercising these functions, the employee must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. regularly. The employee must be able to see objects up close and differentiate between colors.
Work may be subject to deadlines and require tailoring and delivering programs to meet the needs of many diverse groups. Some night and weekend activities are required.
