About Los Angeles Public Library Location: 630 W. 5th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90071, US Mission Statement: The Los Angeles Public Library provides free and easy access to information, ideas, books and technology that enrich, educate and empower every individual in our city's diverse communities. Description The Los Angeles Public Library is the largest public research institution west of the Mississippi. With more than 70 branch libraries and Central Library subject departments serving millions of Angelenos on a yearly basis, our programs are supported by thousands of volunteers in a variety of capacities. Whether providing one-on-one literacy tutoring, cutting out craft supplies for story time activities, helping serve summer lunch at the library, or serving as a Friend of the Library, all volunteers play a role in the work of LAPL. Opportunities and needs vary by location and fluctuate throughout the year. Please note that the minimum age for volunteers is 14 (with the exception of 11-13-year-olds joining Teen Councils), minimum time commitments are required for most opportunities, adult volunteers working with children will be fingerprinted, and LAPL does not accept court-mandated community service.
