Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Service Writer/Auto Mechanic to join our small, family-owned automotive business. This role combines customer service and technical expertise to provide excellent service and ensure efficient operation of our repair shop. The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of experience in automotive service and repairs. Completion of a technical school program is preferred but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Interaction & Service Writing:
- Greet customers, discuss vehicle concerns, and document service requests.
- Provide clear, detailed explanations of vehicle issues and recommended services to customers.
- Schedule and follow up on appointments, ensuring timely communication of service progress.
- Prepare estimates and invoices, keeping customers informed of any changes in the repair process.
Vehicle Diagnostics & Repairs:
- Perform diagnostic tests on vehicles to identify issues, using specialized tools and equipment.
- Carry out routine maintenance services, including oil changes, tire rotations, and brake checks.
- Execute more complex repairs and replacements as needed, ensuring high-quality workmanship.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues to ensure all repairs meet safety and industry standards.
Parts & Inventory Management:
- Assist in the ordering and sourcing of parts, ensuring availability and timely procurement.
- Maintain an organized inventory of tools, parts, and equipment in the shop.
Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for each vehicle serviced.
- Document all repairs, parts used, and labor hours.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with other mechanics, technicians, and service advisors to ensure smooth operations and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- 1+ years of experience as an auto mechanic or service writer in an automotive repair environment.
- Education:
- Completion of a technical school program in automotive repair is preferred but not required.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of automotive systems, diagnostics, and repair procedures.
- Ability to clearly communicate technical information to customers.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and automotive repair software, including Mitchell 1.
- Experience using Mitchell 1 STRONGLY PREFERRED.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Customer-focused attitude with strong interpersonal skills.
