About Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures (PA&L)
Through our five signature lecture series, PA&L connects celebrated authors with the community, elevates civic discourse, and inspires creativity and a passion for the literary arts. Our commitment to knowledge, learning, integrity, and artistic excellence guides and informs our work. We endeavor to inspire members of diverse communities by providing opportunities to experience authors who speak on issues that reflect our values such as justice, compassion, civic responsibility, acceptance, courage, and equity.

We present approximately 40 events each year. Our five signature program series include:
- Ten Evenings, our mainstage series, where we present celebrated authors generously sharing their research and creative process in conversational lectures.
- New & Noted brings touring authors to Pittsburgh with their newly released titles.
- Words & Pictures presents acclaimed children’s authors and illustrators to readers of all ages.
- Made Local showcases talented local authors as well as books and writers with a Pittsburgh connection.
- Poets Aloud features readings by nationally recognized poets.

Summary
The Marketing Specialist is a hybrid and part-time position responsible for developing, designing, and managing the organization’s social media and marketing plans. The position is responsible for identifying, initiating, and maintaining media relationships and working as the liaison with the technical teams.

Position Responsibilities
  • Marketing Materials
    • Leads digital and print advertising strategy and oversees advertising spending. 
    • Designs all print and electronic marketing materials including brochures, program books, posters and signs, Power Point presentations, print and digital ads, and graphic content and management for website and eBlasts.
    • Manages print process from obtaining quotes through to delivery of product; creates and maintains excellent relationships with print vendors.
    • Archives and curates database of all event photos and lecture recordings, for use pertaining to grant proposals, sponsor communication, marketing materials for publicists, and event promotion.
    • Executes design and layout of Ten Evenings and Words & Pictures program books.
    • Draft and execute yearly marketing plan for the organization
    • Maintains the social media accounts of the organization by drafting and scheduling posts on all social media platforms
 
  • Media Relations
Secures articles and listings promoting events in local media:
    • Pitches articles to local media
    • Coordinates interviews
    • Serves as liaison with author publicist/author agents and local media representatives
    • Maintains excellent relationships with author representatives and local media.


Position Qualifications and Proficiencies
The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator and creative thinker, is curious and has an aptitude for computer technology, and is eager to learn new skills.
 
  • Undergraduate in a related field.
  • 3 years of Design and Marketing experience.
  • Proficient in Adobe Photoshop.
  • Proficient in InDesign
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills and a willingness to learn new software systems is paramount, including Tessitura.
  • Interest in and aptitude for diversity, equity, and inclusion work.
  • Experience with basic accounting and budgeting
  • Organized, efficient, and deadline-oriented.
  • Works well in collaborative, supportive, positive work environment with high level of trust and good humor.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate the organizations’ events.

Pay
$20-25/hr. Up to 20 hours a week.

The ideal candidate will be able to work at our office at least once a week.
