Summary
Enterprise Marketing and Communications is seeking a qualified candidate to apply for the Social Media Admin & Engagement Specialist position.
The Social Media Admin & Engagement Specialist serves as a pivotal member of the VCU Social team, functioning as the frontline and operational backbone for VCU's social media initiatives. This role ensures seamless scheduling, engagement, and compliance across the university's diverse social media ecosystem, while also supporting creative and emergency communication needs.
Typical Duties
Key Responsibilities
The Social Media Admin & Engagement Specialist manages the scheduling and organization of content across VCU's social media platforms, including posting and reposting Instagram stories and content while maintaining a consistent and strategic posting schedule. They monitor and respond to direct/private messages and comments, ensuring a positive and engaging online presence. The specialist will raise concerning messages to the proper internal teams per protocol. Proactively interacting with VCU's social media accounts and fostering collaboration across the enterprise are critical parts of this role, providing a cohesive brand voice.
Administrative responsibilities include project management for team campaigns, managing the team email account by responding to inquiries, organizing communications, and maintaining workflows. They also oversee the content team calendar, creating events and reminders to ensure timely project execution and team alignment.
This role supports the social media governance and compliance team by assisting with requests, updating guidelines, and flagging VCU unit content to ensure adherence to best practices. They also play a supportive role in daily and emergency monitoring and crisis communications. Additionally, the Specialist conducts trend research to identify opportunities for innovative social media content and mines user-generated content from students, unit partners, and the broader VCU community, ensuring the university's social media present reflects its diversity and vibrance.
While the primary focus is on engagement operations, the Specialist may also contribute to content creation efforts to support the team's creative goals.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 2-3 years of experience in social media management, administration, focusing on engagement and organizational excellence.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone and style for various audiences.
- Proficiency in social media platforms and tools (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite or similar).
- Knowledge of social media best practices, governance, and compliance standards.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
- Flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities especially during crises or emergency.
- Demonstrated ability working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
