The SVP will design and implement a strategic and operational plan for building and managing a comprehensive global communications strategy. As Smile Train’s communications strategy leader, the SVP will provide leadership and hold full accountability to direct, strengthen and expand the Smile Train brand and reach globally. They will ideate, define, and shape Smile Train’s strategic communications initiatives to engage key audiences. Smile Train’s four key audiences: supporter audience (ambassadors, advocates, donors, and prospects), programs audience (medical partners, institutions, patients and families, government, and multilateral organizations), global audiences, and internal staff. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues worldwide to procure content and provide a strategic approach to communications for Smile Train’s partners worldwide. Position Summary The Senior Vice President, Communications (SVP) will lead the design and implementation of Smile Train’s global communications strategy, ensuring the organization’s voice resonates across diverse audiences. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the SVP will oversee a Communications team of professionals specializing in public relations, advocacy, social media, brand communications, content creation, and graphic design. This pivotal role will enhance Smile Train’s reputation and influence, refining and expanding the organization’s brand to elevate its position in global health. The SVP will collaborate closely with colleagues worldwide, bridging internal and external communications to amplify Smile Train’s impact and message. This hybrid role requires a commitment to working from Smile Train’s New York City headquarters twice weekly, with travel expected at 15–30%. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Develop a deep understanding of Smile Train’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities
to ensure alignment in all communications efforts. Design and implement a global communications strategy
that effectively supports Smile Train’s organizational goals and amplifies its impact. Serve as a key global spokesperson for Smile Train , representing the organization across various platforms and engagements. Strengthen and evolve Smile Train’s brand
to highlight its sustainable model and far-reaching global impact. Ensure seamless integration of strategic communications
across all key audiences, including donors, program partners, global stakeholders, and internal teams. Brand and Communications Management Refine and amplify Smile Train’s global brand identity. Lead direction and coordination of global communications, ensuring efforts are cohesive and results driven. Build collaborative relationships across the organization and its international teams. Create systems for content procurement and streamlined sharing of communications assets across the organization. Global Advocacy and Collaboration Serve as a visible and respected global ambassador for Smile Train. Lead the development of high-impact communications campaigns that drive press coverage, social awareness, and programmatic and fundraising success. Foster opportunities for stakeholders to engage and share feedback, ensuring consistent integration of diverse perspectives into communications strategies. Team Leadership, Management, and Accountability The SVP will play a pivotal role in building and leading a high-performing Communications team composed of skilled professionals specializing in Public and Media Relations, Editorial, Internal Communications, and Advocacy. Key qualifications include: Experience and Expertise Ten years or more of significant experience in global communications leadership, ideally in a non-profit or public health context, but not mandatory. Proven ability to create and execute comprehensive, impact-driven communications strategies. Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Journalist experience a plus. Demonstrated success in expanding and strengthening an organization’s brand on a global scale. Advanced facilitation skills for collaboration across diverse teams and audiences. Personal Attributes Passion for Smile Train’s mission and values. Strategic thinker with a balance of big-picture vision and detail-oriented execution. Education Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred. Compensation and Benefits Salary Range:
