Job Summary

Genera is a fast-growing manufacturer of sustainable packaging and fiber products from locally sourced agricultural crops. As a Packaging Designer, you will be responsible for creating attractive and functional food and consumer packaging made from thermoformed fiber. You will be part of the Innovation Center responsible for new product development from ideas through prototyping and customer testing. Your role involves learning the qualities of thermoformed fiber, creating innovative designs meeting customer needs within the limits of thermoformed fiber, and understanding how thermoformed fiber production impacts product design. The results of your work will be visible at restaurants and grocery stores across North America.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative, functional, and visually appealing packaging designs for applications in restaurants, fresh and frozen foods, and consumer goods.
  • Collaborate with Genera's customers to determine packaging goals and develop designs to meet these goals.
  • Work with the Innovation Center staff and Genera's sales team to review and revise designs, assist in prototype tooling and parts production, conduct packaging tests, and participate in onsite trials of prototypes.
  • Provide recommendations based on testing results and customer feedback.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Design, Industrial Design, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in packaging design, preferably in food or foodservice design.
  • Expertise in design software like Adobe Creative Suite, Fusion 360, and SolidWorks.
  • Strong technical background in designing for structural performance.
  • Familiarity with various food and foodservice packaging materials and production techniques.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong aesthetic sense and the ability to translate customer needs into visually stunning designs.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Physical Demands

The employee may be required to talk, listen, stand, walk, sit, use hands, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, push, pull, lift up to 25 pounds, and have specific vision abilities. Safety equipment and clothing may be necessary. Hearing protection is provided in noisy environments. Prolonged desk work and computer usage may occur.
