The Council on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse (CADA) is seeking a Grant Writer to join our dedicated team in Santa Barbara. This role plays a vital part in advancing our mission by identifying and securing funding opportunities that support our programs and services.

As a Grant Writer, you’ll craft compelling grant proposals, research funding prospects, and collaborate closely with our team to align grant opportunities with our organizational goals. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful initiatives addressing substance use and co-occurring mental health challenges in our community.

This is a full-time position, 30 hours per week. This position is remote-eligible, allowing for a work-from-home arrangement if needed. However, the selected candidate must live within one hour of Santa Barbara due to periodic in-office obligations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • Grant writing experience
  • Experience securing new funding opportunities; comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to distinguish and identify opportunities
  • Knowledge of grant application process, scoring criteria and funding cycles
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, exceptional time management skills, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent writing and verbal skills
  • Proficiency in research, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data
  • Excellent Computer skills (Microsoft Office Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel), and database management skills
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively and independently with purpose and accuracy in a fast-paced environment
  • Must reside within one hour of Santa Barbara, as some in-office attendance is required for meetings and presentations

Responsibilities:

  • Research and identify funding opportunities from government, corporate, foundation, and private sources
  • Write high-quality grant proposals, applications, and supporting documents
  • Ensure timely submission of proposals and grant reports to meet funding requirements
  • Maintain grant schedules, track submissions, and monitor reporting deadlines
  • Serve as the primary liaison with funding agencies and organizations
  • Collaborate with staff to draft letters of inquiry, concept papers, and proposals
  • Track and report the status of submitted proposals
  • Maintain and update a master file of pending grants and contracts
  • Stay informed on trends and updates in grant proposal standards and funding opportunities
  • Regularly meet with staff to discuss and align funding needs
  • Ensure compliance with organizational and state grant management policies
  • Advise staff on allowable expenditures for specific grants
  • Report grant progress and address issues to supervisors as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding employee information

This is a full-time position, 30 hours per week, and is benefit eligible. Compensation is dependent on the level of prior experience and qualifications, with a salary range of $35-$45 per hour, and a rate increase potential for bilingual (Spanish/English).
