DESCRIPTION
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative assistant audio engineer (A2) to join Wicked’s long-running North American tour. This involves leading local crews, backstage duties during performances, regular maintenance, mixing up to four shows per week, and ensuring execution of the production’s high standards.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work under the direction of the touring Head Audio Engineer (A1) and Head Carpenter.
- Move and manage live audio, communications, and utility video systems for a large, established traveling production.
- Work collaboratively and safely within the audio team, other touring departments, and local house crews.
- Run the pre-established ‘A2 track’ during setup, performances, rehearsals, and tear-down.
- Coordinate and maintain all aspects of wireless microphones including frequency coordination, microphone rigging, fitting, testing, distribution, actor placement checks, troubleshooting, and monitoring.
- Confidently troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with audio, communication, and video systems.
- Perform as-needed maintenance of show-owned equipment and systems.
- Under the direction of the A1, learn to mix and maintain the established design aesthetic of the show.
- Receive and implement notes from the A1, music director, associate sound designer, and members of the creative team.
- Once trained, mix performances on an alternating schedule with the A1.
- As needed, cover vacations and sick time, acting as A1.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
- IATSE Membership in good standing.
- Passion for delivering a nuanced listening experience, aligned with Wicked’s established design parameters.
- Minimum of two years of successful touring, theatre audio experience.
- Strong, adaptable theatrical mixing skills with designer/audio supervisor references.
- Practical experience rigging head- and ear-worn microphones.
- Competency with basic electrical troubleshooting and repair, including soldering.
- Must have a record of excellent organization and respectful communication skills.
- Must have vetted experience leading and collaborating with other production personnel.
- Must be an outside-of-the-box thinker to make Wicked successful in a variety of venues.
- Must exhibit professional etiquette with cast, crew, musicians, management, and the entire production staff.
- Be able to organize and lead the safe handling of show equipment in and around semi-trailers.
- Be able to obtain a passport to travel and work internationally.
- Be able to work 16-hour days during load in and out.
- Be able to lift 60 lbs.
- Be able to work safely at heights up to 30’.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Five years of touring theatre experience, including leadership roles.
- Cross-departmental stagehand experience including carpentry, electrics, wardrobe.
- Academic training or equivalent practical experience in theatrical design and technology.
- Musical training/proficiency.
- Familiarity with DiGiCo consoles and Meyer Sound systems.
- RF Coordination and software skills (Masque’s IAS, Sennheiser WSM).
- Fluency with Stagetec NEXUS digital routing systems.
- Experience building and maintaining ClearCom PL and FreeSpeak intercom, plus composite, SDI, and HDMI video distribution.
- Audio shop prep/maintenance experience.
SALARY:
Weekly Salary: $2,400 + All Applicable Overtime Per Full Pink Contract
