ART SPECIALIST DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL (DSP) in COMMUNITY SERVICES DAY PROGRAM
Monday-Friday 8am-4pm = 40 hours
Starting at: $18.75/hour
Since 1967, Creative Works has pioneered exceptional Community Services that provide critical community-based daytime activities for adults with disabilities and autism. We are hiring a full time Art Specialist DSP for our Community Services Day Program in Saco. JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the Creative Works’ Arts Curriculum which provides individuals with the artistic experience that promotes personal growth through the development of self-esteem, self-confidence, and independence.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Advocate for assigned individual(s), i.e., attend all meetings, ensure all medical, dental and therapy appointments are scheduled and kept and assist in developing and maintaining family and community relationships.
- Attend to individuals’ personal care needs. (This may include lifting and assisting individuals in and out of wheelchairs, use of Hoyer lift if necessary, and maintaining good hygiene.)
- Transport individuals, as needed, using personal vehicle (i.e., to appointments, work, etc.)
- Transfer from one assignment to another as requested (e.g., from one residence to another or from day program to residence and vice versa).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide multi-level skill training based upon the Creative Works Thematic Art Curriculum.
- Design and develop level–appropriate project plans based upon the Creative Works Thematic Art Curriculum.
- Obtain and organize art materials related to project plans in a timely manner.
- Prepare and present exhibitions of art projects and organize Creative Works 'Arts in the Evening' events.
- Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring Individual Program Plans (IPP).
- Maintain accurate records including daily logs, individual files, and accident and incident reports.
- Maintain open and focused communication with team members regarding goals and progress of program participants.
- Follow established schedules for both individuals we serve and those set by Team Leaders for staff.
- Comply with all policies as stated in the Personnel Policies and Procedures Handbook.
- Ensure any facility where individuals use Creative Works services, (i.e., residences, day program or community-based centers) are kept clean and safe.
- Project a professional image at all times.
PHYSICAL TOLERANCES:
- Ability to do standing/sedentary tasks for long periods of time.
- Ability to perform range of motion tasks, including but not limited to; reaching, bending, stretching, stooping and lifting.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (all personnel are trained in correct lifting procedures).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma.
- B.A. Degree preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Satisfactory driving record per agency’s insurance company standards.
- Ability to speak, read and write in English.
- Experience supporting people with disabilities a plus.
