- Appointment Type: These are Exempt positions excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process, pursuant to the City and County of San Francisco, Charter Section 10.104. They are considered "at will" and shall serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer. The duration of these appointments is up to 36 months.

Under general supervision, the Illustrator and Art Designer performs complex illustrator and graphic design work, including but not limited to preparation of reports, flyers, brochures, graphs, charts, infographics, ads, maps, signage, banners, event collateral, large format displays, announcements, and web and social media graphics.
You are excited about this opportunity because you will:
- Create original digital and print graphics and illustration projects that adhere to the SFO brand standards.
- Communicate and coordinate with stakeholders to discuss their graphic and illustrator needs, develop concepts, and acquire approval of final designs.
- Prepare and package final design files for printing or web use.
- Select print materials, coordinate print production, conduct press checks and approve final prints for quality.
- Capture and edit photographic images to incorporate into design layouts.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
Four (4) years of professional experience in graphic design or commercial art, which must include journey-level experience using a desktop publishing (DPT) platform (Mac or PC) with associated scanners, printers, and software.
Substitution:
Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.
License or Certification: Possession of a valid California driver’s license (CA driver’s license must be obtained prior to appointment).
Desirable Qualifications:
- A broad array of creative design experience in both print and web.
- Extensive mapping and photography experience.
- Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (i.e., InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines and work well under pressure.
