Qualifications/Attributes:
- At least 21 years of age or older preferred, with a passion for art and working with children.
- Previous experience teaching art or working with children in a camp or educational setting.
- Must enjoy playing and interacting with children.
- Organized, enthusiastic, and energetic.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire campers of varying ages and skill levels.
- Must be a creative and innovative thinker and planner.
- Must take initiative, be self-directed, and capable of independently identifying and solving problems.
- Good character and integrity.
- Positive physical and mental health.
- The desire to work with children in a day-camp setting.
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, and patience.
- Ability to follow guidance and supervision.
POSITION PURPOSE:
The Visual Arts Camp Art Specialist is responsible for providing specialist teaching skills in specific program areas that enhance campers’ skill level.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the supervision of the Visual Arts Camp Unit Head, the Art Specialist is responsible for the planning and conducting of art projects that foster an environment that is fun and creative for campers. In addition, this role also assists other camp staff in implementing the program to provide a rich and fun experience for campers. The position requires a high aptitude to manage day-to-day interactions with children in Grades 2-5, a strong capability to work collaboratively with the Performing Arts/Visual Arts camp team, and a capacity to be flexible.
Requirements:
- Design and facilitate engaging art lessons and activities that encourage creativity and self-expression in campers.
- Create a supportive and inclusive environment where campers feel comfortable exploring different art mediums, techniques, and styles.
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor.
- Plan and organize Visual Arts Camp art show highlighting camper work.
- Foster positive relationships with campers, providing encouragement, guidance, and constructive feedback as they explore and develop their artistic skills.
- Collaborate with fellow camp staff to integrate art activities into the overall camp program and coordinate with other camp activities.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of campers during art activities, following appropriate safety protocols and supervising campers effectively.
- Attend all staff trainings and staff meetings.
- Any other responsibilities as assigned by the Visual Arts Camp Unit Head.
