Responsibilities:

Welcome to Lightspeed LA (Irvine), the first U.S.-based, AAA game development studio for Tencent Games, where we are focused on building open-world games that emphasize an ambitious living world, sophisticated player-driven gameplay, and mature, thoughtful storytelling!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop the lighting, color and mood, and transitions for environments and characters with guidance from Directors and Leads, the Art team, and Design.
  • Collaborate with concept and environment artists, designers, VFX artists, and animators to highlight their work, respond to changes, and optimize the visual look to produce high-end imagery.
  • Work together with development teams to push the visual quality of cinematic lighting while maintaining memory and performance constraints.
  • Stay current with industry lighting techniques.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of industry experience in Games or Film/Animation/VFX.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent understanding of color and color theory, space, material, and light, to deliver a quality realistic style for compelling game environments and in-game cinematics.
  • Strong artistic skills to interpret concept art and color keys to recreate the mood and atmosphere in a game environment.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Strong understanding of exposure, direct/indirect light, fog, post processing, and the relation between shaders/materials, albedo, and lighting.
  • Excellent competency in industry standard DCC Software utilizing Physically-based HDR Lighting and Global Illumination.
  • Experience working with writers or directors focusing on the visual narrative side of lighting a scene.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, time management, and organizational skills, with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with real-time game engines (Unreal Engine, Unity, other/proprietary).
  • General understanding of color grading with proficiency in industry standard software such as Nuke, Fusion/DaVinci Resolve.

The base pay range for this position in the state(s) above is $99,600 to $207,600 per year. Actual pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign on payment, relocation package, and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, as well as other medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the specific position offered.
