ICF Communication/Outreach Support Specialist - Bethesda, Maryland
ICF is currently seeking a Communication/Outreach Support Specialist to work on the OTIP/ORR Mission Support Project. The purpose of this project is to provide support to OTIP and ORR in meeting their mission goals. This support covers a variety of activities across multiple divisions within each federal program.
The Communication/Outreach Support Specialist will use his/her expertise to develop and implement communication and outreach strategies, develop communication materials, support crisis communication, and event planning and support.
The successful candidate will have a broad knowledge of communication and outreach strategies and will report to a divisional or bureau lead for supervision and assignments.
Positions will be fully remote, onsite embedded in the client site, and hybrid.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing and implementing cohesive communications and outreach strategies informed by agency mission, goals, and priorities.
- Supporting an array of communications solutions to facilitate outreach, education, and ongoing communication with identified internal and external audiences.
- Assisting federal staff in crisis communication efforts by researching and drafting accurate and timely responses to inquiries from the media or media statements for review and use by federal staff.
- Creating outreach and educational materials, press releases, newsletters, blogs, and social media posts based on a clear understanding of target audiences’ needs and preferences, using engaging and plain language, and following digital and marketing writing best practices.
- Ensuring that deliverables meet all relevant federal and agency rules and standards including 508 Compliance and the Plain Writing Act of 2010.
- Assisting in drafting and circulating outreach materials for agency beneficiaries, grant recipients, and partners from the governmental, non-governmental, and private sectors.
- Supporting ongoing engagement with agency beneficiaries and partners through in-person and remote events, working groups, and other mechanisms.
- Assisting in the development and publication of reports, including collection of internal and external information, research, writing, editing, formatting, and designing for website publication.
- Assisting federal staff in the planning and coordination of events, including agenda development, logistics, scheduling, venue selection, speaker identification and coordination, and the development of promotional materials.
- Conducting post-event evaluations, including identifying challenges and successes and making recommendations for future improvement.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, public administration, communications, public relations, or related field which requires an understanding of written communication. 3 years’ experience in a similar role can be substituted for the bachelor’s degree.
- A minimum of 1-year experience developing communication packages, strategies, or plans for an organization or project.
- At least 1-year of experience supporting an ORR or OTIP program, grantee, or federal agency.
Preferred Skills:
- 508 compliance skills.
- Education and/or experience in the application of race equity, diversity, and inclusion of social justice strategies in human service settings.
- Working knowledge of the refugee, immigrant, and asylee challenges.
- Experience working for a refugee/migrant program.
- Experience in event planning and execution.
