About the Department:

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) is a hub of intellectual dynamism and diversity, a locus of local and global civic engagement, and an access point to educational excellence for individuals of all backgrounds. CHSS prepares students exceptionally well for economically successful and civically engaged lives.


About the Position:

The Senior Editor/Writer leads the writing and editorial function for the college's digital communications, including its bi-monthly e-newsletter. The position aims to extend the college's reputation and supports the university's grand challenges while emphasizing the CHSS mission.


Responsibilities:

Content Curation and Creation

  1. Develops and executes a storytelling approach aligned with the CHSS strategic plan.
  2. Engages communicators and faculty across CHSS to educate them about storytelling strategies.
  3. Meets with department delegates to develop stories and content calendars.
  4. Directs and collaborates with content experts and develops a strategic content plan.

Sharing Content

  1. Leverages writing and editing skills to develop content for various platforms.
  2. Sources and reports key stories from faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
  3. Assists with speechwriting and internal communications.
  4. Manages relevant sections of the website, writing and uploading new content.

Internal Communications

  1. Manages and publishes the college's bi-weekly newsletter.
  2. Ensures content strategy alignment with the Dean's goals.
  3. Publishes the newsletter electronically twice a month.

Brand Development

  1. Develops the CHSS brand platform in conjunction with the marketing team.

Event and Publication Support

  1. Promotes CHSS faculty expertise to potential graduate students and funders.
  2. Identifies external content for CHSS marketing channels.
  3. Monitors and updates the CHSS website and creates content.

Other related duties as assigned


Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Extensive experience in writing and editing;
  • Experience in communications plans and media relations;
  • Exceptional communication skills;
  • Demonstrated project management skills;
  • Team player with an understanding of liberal arts and higher education;
  • Ability to use CHSS visual branding guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field;
  • Experience in higher education.
