Senior Associate Editor, Data Privacy & Cybersecurity

As a Senior Associate Editor at Practical Law, you will work in conjunction with more experienced colleagues based in the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia to interpret and explain legal, practice and market developments to our customers through online content. This role is aligned with the Global Data Privacy & Cybersecurity team which covers legal developments in the US, the UK, the EU, and other selected jurisdictions.

About the Role

Working in a supportive team of colleagues as a Senior Associate Editor, you will:

  • Work with Senior Specialist Legal Editors to research, draft, edit, and update core data privacy & cybersecurity legal know-how resources for Practical Law's online products and services.
  • Write, edit, and publish legal updates on data privacy & cybersecurity topics and work on other current awareness resources.
  • Monitor legal, practice and/or market developments globally and maintain current awareness on data privacy & cybersecurity topics.
  • Complete regular interim and annual maintenance on data privacy & cybersecurity resources.
  • Update legislation, guidance, and other trackers.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external law firm contributors.
  • Provide additional editorial support, as needed, to Senior Specialist Legal Editors on the team.
  • Provide support for non-content and other administrative tasks, including product support, as needed.
  • Work on projects for the Manager or Director of the Data Privacy & Cybersecurity service, as needed.

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Senior Associate Editor if your background includes:

  • J.D., or equivalent, required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience working as an attorney or legal editor, data privacy experience preferred but not required.
  • A good understanding of the needs and priorities of law firm attorneys, in-house counsel, and the legal market in general.
  • Enthusiasm and ambition with a desire to improve the efficiency of legal services.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and editing skills, including the ability to improve clarity, structure, and readability of complex content.
  • Skill and passion for writing, including:
    • very close attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards of accuracy;
    • impressive command of grammar, punctuation, and plain English; and
    • the ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, including ability to multitask and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to constantly collaborate with and support team members.
  • Flexibility and enthusiasm for working on a dynamic editorial team.
  • Strong communication skills and a desire for collaboration.
  • Strong desire to develop expertise in global data privacy & cybersecurity topics.

Candidates selected for a second interview will be required to participate in a writing exercise.
