The New York State Senate is seeking an experienced law librarian to coordinate and deliver reference services in the NYS Legislative Library. The Legislative Library serves the research and information needs of the NYS Senate, the NYS Assembly, and legislative staff.
In this dynamic role, you will:
- Provide professional library services by performing legislative reference work, including providing legal research assistance to legislators and staff, utilizing the library’s print and electronic resources.
- Assist library visitors on a ready reference basis by locating materials, answering questions, and assisting with the upkeep and maintenance of library materials.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Salary: $65,000 - $75,000/year
Qualifications:
To be considered, you must have:
- A master’s degree in library science or information science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution.
- Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
- Strong customer service skills.
- The flexibility and willingness to learn in a changing environment.
The ideal candidate will also have:
- Experience in a law library or library information center with a significant legal collection.
- A law degree from an accredited law school.
- Familiarity with Westlaw, Lexis, and HeinOnline.
Other Information:
This position is Monday through Friday, 35 hours per week, 9.00AM-5.00PM with some unpredictable evening hours during the legislative session (January-June).
Salary range is $65,000 to $75,000, commensurate with education and experience.
