The Librarian II supervises the employees and operations for a major area or function of library services in one or more of the following areas: Adult Services, Children & Youth Services, Collection and Technology Services, and inventHQ.
This role has a high level of responsibility and includes all planning, directing, organizing, implementing, and coordinating in the assigned area. As a leader in the Library, Arts, History and CSU Extension Department, the Librarian II models the appropriate behavior to create and maintain a collaborative, innovative, and resilient work culture within the department.
The incumbent works in partnership with other employees, departments/divisions, agencies and the public in delivering effective and innovative services. They maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all members of the community. While performing in-charge-of-building duties, they enforce safety policies and the Library’s Code of Conduct procedures.

- Oversee day-to-day library operations in the assigned area.
- Ensure coverage for public service points in assigned area; collaborate with the supervisory team to ensure building wide coverage.
- Implement department goals, develop and align team goals to department goals and ongoing diversity and equity goals.
- Build an effective team by providing guidance and coaching to staff, developing annual performance plans and conducting annual reviews.
- Maintain a climate which attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top quality people.
- Align with and model the department’s healthy workplace culture initiatives.
- Develop and maintain a training plan for the team.
- Maintain statistics and analyze patron data and trends to make decisions in the assigned area.
- Manage assigned budget and/or resources, including assisting in annual budget preparation, managing facilities and equipment.
- Manage public relations and communication by engaging with employees, community groups, and the public, fostering effective relationships with other departments and organizations, and representing the library at meetings.
- Maintain a professional knowledge of current trends, developments, guidelines and recommendations in the assigned area.
- Contribute to leadership of the department by working collaboratively with other department supervisors and managers and the larger organization.
- In collaboration with Library Programming Manager, Library Operations Manager and library supervisors, review, recommend and maintain policies, procedures and guidelines, ensuring that they are consistent and effective across the library.
Division Specific Duties:
In addition to the duties listed on the position job description, the following are additional duties for the position identified below. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Supervises and provides direction on selection, cataloging, processing, displaying and weeding all library collections.
- Maintains a high level of professional knowledge of the cataloging, administration, and acquisitions functions of the Integrated Library System and performs system management and maintenance as needed.
- In coordination with other library divisions, supervises the implementation of all aspects of the library collection, including physical materials, digital materials, and online resources and subscriptions.
- Uses various data tools to evaluate collection and keep it fresh and relevant to the local community and monitors usage and wait times in order to best serve the community.
- Maintains professional knowledge of and records best practices and trends in cataloging, discovery, system management, collection development, collection maintenance, publishing, cataloging and collection technologies, and digital resources.
- Maintains professional knowledge of MARC records and RDA standards.
- With the Library Operations Manager and other library leadership, develops and implements annual operations goals and strategy.
Education
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in library science or records/information management or closely related field.
Experience
- 4 years of library experience with at least two years of increasingly responsible leadership experience in the assigned area of library work. This experience must also include supervisory or lead work, which demonstrates the ability to perform the Essential Required Tasks.
Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience.

- Some evening and weekend hours.
- Work is performed at City/County work locations with the ability to perform some duties remotely in accordance with Broomfield's remote work policy.
- Physical demands are described as light (exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects).
- Tasks may require use of a computer for several hours.
- This position is eligible to work from home up to 1 day x week with the approval of their supervisor.
