Job Description

Three Rivers Regional Library seeks a dynamic leader who is prepared to engage with the seven county region to promote, support and provide secure funding for library services. The director works under the TRRLS Board of Trustees. The director is assisted by a team of professionals dedicated to providing superior library services.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the regional library office while advising and supporting a team of professional librarians and a team of branch managers in the 10 libraries in the seven county region.
  • Manage the library budget, including allocating funds for staff, collections, programs, and facility maintenance.
  • Assure compliance with all funding source rules and regulations.
  • Hire, train, and evaluate regional library staff.
  • Develop, monitor and enforce library policies and procedures.
  • Engage in strategic planning, including implementation, monitoring, assessment and reporting.

Community Engagement

  • Collaborate with local organizations and community leaders to promote library services.
  • Identify and address community needs through program development and outreach initiatives.
  • Foster positive relationships with patrons to create a strong library community.
  • Represent the library at public events and meetings.
  • Participate in the greater community of Georgia’s public libraries through participation in training programs, leadership development, peer support and statewide committee assignments for the state’s many cooperative library efforts including PINES, GALILEO and the Regents Public Library Advisory Committee.

Collection Development

  • Develop and implement collection development policies.

Board Relations

  • Regularly report to the library board on library operations, budget status, and strategic initiatives.
  • Work with the board to develop and implement library policies.
  • Advocate for library funding and resources to the board and community.
  • Oversee the library's technology infrastructure and systems.
  • Implement new technologies to enhance library services and access.
  • Train staff on technology usage and digital literacy initiatives.
  • Stay informed about trends in information technology and library services.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Ability to obtain a Grade 5-B certification or higher from the Georgia State Board for the Certification of Librarians.
  • Proven leadership and management experience in a public library setting.
  • Strong understanding of library operations and best practices.
  • Familiarity with current library technology and trends.
  • Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.
  • Proficiency in budgeting and financial management.
  • Ability to create and oversee fundraising initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to community engagement and outreach.

Physical Demands

  • The work is typically performed intermittently sitting, standing, walking, and driving.
  • The employee lifts light objects and uses equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
  • Ability to travel across the region by car.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • The work is typically performed in an office.
  • This position is based at the Regional Headquarters Office in Jesup, GA.
  • This position will require travel to the various libraries and organizations in the region.
