Position Summary UNM-Taos is excited to announce an external competitive search for a Library Director/Lecturer III. The University of New Mexico, Taos Library, invites applications for a full-time twelve (12) month faculty position as a Lecturer/Library Director, non-tenured appointment. Salary is $70,000-73,000 annually. All Lecturer appointments at UNM provide for promotional and multi-year contract opportunities.
Under the general supervision of the Dean of Instruction, the Library Faculty/Director provides leadership for the development, assessment, administration and oversight of all library services, including, but not limited to: public and technical services (including all original cataloging and direct oversight of copy cataloging activities), facilities, equipment needs, library budget planning, collection development, library instruction and faculty outreach, acquisitions, student technology lending program, and computer operations. Supervises and evaluates full-time library staff. Represents the UNM-Taos Campus Library on various campus and state committees.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manage all aspects of the day-to-day library operations in a collaborative manner.
- Serve as an advocate for the Library and promote its services and resources.
- Develop, maintain and oversee department budget/procurement/resources according to University Policy.
- Formulate and execute library policies and procedures, as appropriate.
- Supervise the staff within the Library (includes work allocation and scheduling, professional development, performance evaluation and makes recommendations for personnel actions).
- Encourage and promote the development of staff members within the library.
- Review, evaluate and select library materials in areas of expertise for library collection development, and serve as a liaison to teaching faculty.
- Maintain databases and library data/statistics.
- Facilitate the implementation of software platform configuration and settings.
- Maintain library databases and licenses.
- Serve as the representative for the University for all library related initiatives internally and externally for the campus.
- Demonstrate commitment to the University Mission and Vision.
- Manage and further develop the Senator Carlos Cisneros and Healy Foundation Land Grant and Acequia Archives.
Faculty duties include development and evaluation of curricula, serving on campus committees, mentoring, attending faculty meetings, participating in departmental activities and other related duties consistent with the role of community college faculty member.
The successful candidates will be expected to assume a primarily administrative/management workload that includes service and professional development/scholarly work. Instructional duties may be assigned in a credentialed discipline.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Library Science (or related degree) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution.
Five years professional library experience, with increasing responsibilities in an administrative and/or managerial/supervisory capacity within an academic or research library, or equivalent organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proven ability to work collaboratively with library staff, faculty, students and administrators.
Proven ability to work effectively both in a team environment and independently.
Excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communication.
Teaching experience.
Knowledge of current issues and trends in scholarly communication, pedagogy, and librarianship such as copyright, plagiarism, intellectual freedom, technology issues and assessment.
Demonstrated knowledge of emerging technologies and their application to libraries.
Experience with integrated library systems, e.g., III Millennium, WMS, OCLC Connexion, etc.
A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
