Overview
The Music Director is responsible for managing the Sacred Music Program for Our Lady of the Lake. This includes the researching, planning, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating of all elements of the music program in keeping with the liturgical directive of the Catholic Church.
Duties
- *To be present where needed, ready to work as needed to meet responsibilities. Includes recognizing when situations require more effort, satisfying responsibilities in a timely manner, providing an example of punctuality and attendance, and generally ensuring all is ready and taken care of.
- *Meet all communication requirements, including interpersonal skills with other employees and parishioners. Includes learning the parish strategic and cultural objectives, keeping supervisor and appropriate others informed, meeting regularly with the Pastor and staff. Attend staff meetings.
- *Provide a comprehensive program, in consultation with the Pastor, that is consistent with the Catholic ethic and in keeping with the sacred spiritual heritage of the Church, including openness to Latin/English chant, contemporary Christ praise lyrics and songs. Stay abreast of liturgical development, especially as they concern music for the Sacred Liturgies both on Archdiocesan and parish level.
- *Provide strong, supportive leadership -with rehearsals for choirs and musicians, in selecting music, directing, accompanying at the three weekend Masses and other important occasions, worship aides, in order to increase the participation of the assembly. Communicating parish strategic and cultural plans and objectives to parishioners in the sacred music program.
- *Provide music for Holy Days of Obligation, Holy Week, Memorial Day, Independence Day, All Souls Day, and Thanksgiving Day. Responsible for weekly Wednesday morning School Masses. Responsible for providing or scheduling weekly Mass at Lake Minnetonka Shores Nursing Home and weekly Stations of the Cross during Lent.
- *Provide music for Faith Formation events (Parish Reconciliation Service - *light chant or other reflective recorded music, Opening Masses, Teaching Masses, First Reconciliation* and First Communion Services.
- Work to recruit and train instrumentalists, choir members, cantors, and accompanists. Maintain relationships with these groups.
- Meet with engaged couples to aid them in the selection of appropriated music for weddings.
- Be present at all funerals either to provide musical accompaniment or to support those contracted to do so.
- Work with Administrator to prepare and follow a budget for expenses for the music program.
- Maintain musical instruments and schedule tunings.
- Maintain music library and licensing.
- *Other Responsibilities identified as needed by the employee and approved and/or assigned by pastor (e.g. bell choir, children’s/youth choir).
Requirements
- Proven experience in music direction or conducting with a strong background in music education.
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire diverse groups of musicians.
- Strong communication skills to effectively convey ideas and instructions clearly to ensemble members.
- Experience in mentoring musicians at various skill levels is highly desirable.
- A deep understanding of various musical genres and styles to create inclusive programming.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment while also being self-motivated.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
