Job Category: General Description

An adjunct faculty member at Oklahoma City Community College has the primary responsibility of instruction. Secondary responsibilities include supporting the integrity of curricula, encouraging student success, and promoting the mission of the division to which the adjunct faculty member belongs as well as the College as a whole.

Reports to: Dean of the Division of Arts, English, and Humanities

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Master’s Degree with 18 graduate hours in Music or related field.
  2. Professional performance ability in vocal or instrumental music.
  3. Teaching experience in individual and/or group instruction.
  4. Demonstrated positive human relations and communication skills.
  5. Basic computer skills, proficient in the use of Microsoft Office or similar software.
  6. Flexible teaching style to accommodate individual learning styles.
  7. Committed to helping students achieve their goals to be successful and attain a college education.
  8. Knowledge of or willingness to learn computer programs used in the department and on campus (such as Moodle).
  9. Organization and attention to detail.
  10. Support and willingness to teach in a competency-based instructional system.
  11. Ability to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
  12. Ability to work well as a team member in an instructional unit.
  13. Ability to communicate and articulate concepts in an organized manner both verbally and in writing.
  14. Ability to read and understand content in order to assist students when they are having difficulty interpreting concepts.
  15. Ability to interact in an effective and encouraging manner with students individually and in groups.
  16. Ability to be available for office hours and provide means of communication with supervisor(s) and/or the department or division office.
  17. Must be punctual and reliable.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  1. General Physical Requirements: Sedentary work; may occasionally exert up to 10 pounds of force.
  2. Physical Activities: Requires frequent movement about the classroom and communication with students, faculty, and staff.
  3. Visual Acuity: Requires the ability to judge, observe, and assess accuracy and thoroughness of work.
  4. Working Conditions: Essential functions performed in an indoor classroom or office setting.

Job Duties

An adjunct faculty member is primarily responsible for supporting student learning by providing quality instruction in courses that the adjunct faculty member and the dean/director agree will be taught. Quality instruction includes:

  1. Clear course objectives.
  2. Prepared and relevant class activities.
  3. Effective and understandable presentations of learning materials.
  4. Fair and understandable grading practices (credit classes only).
  5. Timely responses to students.
  6. A positive atmosphere in the classroom.

In addition, an adjunct faculty member is expected to:

  1. Participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes for the program and/or department.
  2. Respond in a timely fashion to information requests from program, division, and College administrators.
  3. Attend meetings as required.
  4. Acquire new knowledge and skills as appropriate for the academic discipline.
  5. Maintain license or professional certification specific to program requirements.
  6. Satisfy objectives for mutually agreed upon special assignments.
  7. Support the College’s vision, mission, goals, and priorities.
