The mission of the Department of Music Education and Music Therapy, part of the Wells School of Music, is to provide an inclusive, world-class education by engaging students in diverse and evolving degree programs that further artistic excellence and help students become valuable contributors to a greater society. The Wells School of Music serves approximately 450 students with 60 faculty, enjoys full NASM membership, and offers fully accredited degrees in Music Education, Theory, Composition & Studio Composition, Music History, Music Therapy, and Music Performance. The faculty position involves teaching undergraduate and/or graduate level courses in music education. The ideal candidate is a dynamic and innovative music educator with expertise in contemporary practices such as songwriting, music technology, production, and improvisation. The successful candidate will inspire students through creative teaching practices and a commitment to inclusive education that embraces diverse learning styles and backgrounds. The faculty member will collaborate with other departmental faculty and staff to ensure student success.

Responsibilities include:

1. Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music education, emphasizing student-centered approaches in diverse settings, including non-ensemble contexts such as songwriting, music technology, music production, and contemporary musical styles.
2. Design and implement innovative, inclusive, and progressive curricula that address the diverse learning needs of students and reflect current trends in music education.
3. Integrate technology, creative music-making, and equity-centered or culturally sustaining pedagogies into teaching practices.
4. Maintain an active agenda of research, creative work, and/or scholarly engagement.
5. Participate in community partnerships, recruitment, and outreach to promote music education and the department's initiatives.
6. Serve the College, University, and the community through participation in various committees, recruitment, and outreach efforts.
7. Mentor and advise students.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Doctorate in Music Education or a closely related field. ABD may be considered - must be completed by the time of appointment.
2. Experience teaching PK-12 students in creative classroom settings within a recognized educational institution or accredited program.
3. Experience teaching music in creative classroom settings (e.g., songwriting, music technology, music production, etc.).
4. Record of scholarly activity, presentations, creative work, and publications in music education.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience teaching at the college/university level, particularly in music teacher education programs.
2. Experience mentoring pre-service or in-service music teachers in a variety of educational contexts.
3. An established or emerging agenda of research, creative endeavors, or scholarly engagement in music education, with the potential for national or international recognition.
4. Expertise in culturally sustaining or equity-centered pedagogies, with evidence of applying these approaches in music education settings.
5. Experience with community partnerships or outreach efforts that support music education initiatives beyond the classroom.
6. Proficiency in digital audio workstations (DAWs), sound engineering, or other advanced music technology tools.
7. Familiarity with diverse musical traditions and world music, and the ability to incorporate them into curriculum and instruction.
