Fox Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment, and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week.

JOB DESCRIPTION

KDFW Fox 4 is seeking a dynamic, high-performing, results-driven News Director to build on our long-term success and lead our team into the future. KDFW airs 78.5 hours of local news each week, more than double the news of any other station in Dallas Fort Worth. The News Director will oversee news content and production on our linear platforms, digital platforms, and streaming platform – FOX Local. The ideal candidate will be expected to develop new, original content for linear, streaming, and digital platforms.

The ideal candidate will be part of a winning team that believes in supporting, mentoring, and training our staff. We are searching for an experienced Vice President News Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Vice President/News Director supervises the station’s news operations, content, and production. This position also supervises the performance, discipline, and development of News personnel. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee news content and news production across all platforms including linear, digital, and streaming.
  • Develop vision and strategies for all newscasts to achieve viewership growth.
  • Set and direct the editorial and ethical standards in the newsroom.
  • Ensure that news content is balanced, accurate, and meets the station's standards for quality and journalistic integrity.
  • Manage overall news department operations including budgets, expenses, capital and strategic planning, viewership analysis, talent search, websites, streaming platforms, mobile apps, social media, new technology, etc.
  • Assist with editorial efforts outside the normal work schedule at times of severe weather conditions or breaking news.
  • Lead the News Department forward concerning technical, editorial, delivery methods, and platforms.
  • Work closely with the General Manager in the development of news management strategies and goals.
  • Develop professional working relationships with other station department heads and staff.
  • Stay up-to-date on current events, trends, and technologies in the news industry.
  • Recruit, manage, develop, discipline, and motivate staff.
  • Other duties assigned as deemed appropriate and necessary.

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Five (5) years of experience as a News Director preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Radio/TV, or related discipline preferred.

Skillset:

  • Strong hands-on leadership skills with an ability to direct and motivate newsroom staff.
  • Discerning judgment, motivational teambuilding skills, and a passion for good journalism.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of ratings growth.
  • In-depth understanding of research, analytics, viewership, and promotion are essential.
  • Excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to manage in a fast-paced environment with superior attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and time constraints.
  • Ability to work various hours including nights, weekends, and during severe weather situations as needed and/or scheduled.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software.

Compensation:

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $250,000.00-300,000.00 annually for high cost labour markets such as New York City and Los Angeles, $208,300.00-250,000.00 annually for all other US locations. This role is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, various benefits, including medical/dental/vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents.
