JOB REQUIREMENTS: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced News Director to join our team at KQDS in Duluth, MN. As the News Director, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our news operations, including content creation, editorial direction, and team management.

What you’ll do:

1. Develop and implement editorial strategies to ensure high-quality, relevant, and engaging news content.
2. Manage a team of journalists, reporters, and producers, providing guidance, feedback, and training as needed.
3. Collaborate with other departments, such as production and sales, to ensure cohesive and effective news coverage.
4. Monitor news developments and industry trends to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
5. Maintain editorial standards and ensure compliance with legal and ethical guidelines.
6. Oversee the production of news segments, ensuring they are accurate, balanced, and well-presented.
7. Represent the station at community events and with external partners.

What qualities we are hoping to find in you:

1. Knowledge of on-air and online techniques, procedures, protocols, and standards.
2. Ability to collect, evaluate, and adapt news to deliver compelling on-air and online content.
3. Communicate a compelling and inspired vision consistent with the company’s strategic objectives.
4. Supervise and train employees including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
5. Be team-oriented and able to work well both collaboratively and independently.

Minimum Requirements:

1. Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
2. At least 5 years of experience in a newsroom, with a proven track record of editorial leadership.
3. Strong editorial judgment and decision-making skills.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
5. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
6. Familiarity with broadcast news operations and technologies.
7. Knowledge of the Duluth media market and community.
8. Unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
9. Fluent in English.
