We are hiring a Virtual Production Manager for real-time broadcast productions. The role would be responsible both for planning and project managing the creation of real-time graphic solutions across broadcast news, weather, and elections with a focus on Virtual Production. The role would involve working with the Creative Services, Editorial, and Engineering teams to generate consistently excellent productions using cutting-edge technologies.
The role will help guide CBS NEWS AND STATIONS into using new technologies that leapfrog the market while upholding traditional broadcast and editorial workflow quality. Additionally, the role would require knowledge and hands-on skills to deploy a full technology stack for virtual production in a broadcast environment including 3D asset construction; real-time graphic optimizations in Unreal Engine and Cinema 4D; camera tracking protocols; newsroom control systems; in-house data systems; and broadcast protocol integrations for MOS, GPIO, CII templated workflows.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and guide a Virtual Production team in executing deployments across multiple broadcast news studios and environments.
  2. Lead the creative and technical teams for managing special event productions.
  3. Liaise with technical, creative, and editorial teams to pitch and implement new paradigms using Virtual production as a tool for visual storytelling.
  4. Communicate complex and technical ideas to technical and non-technical artists as well as editorial and production teams.
  5. Build productive internal/external working relationships with 3rd party vendors.
  6. Provide regular training to keep staff current on real-time graphic production workflows and methodologies.
  7. Work with engineering departments on technical diagrams for software and hardware configurations.
  8. Write and deliver best practice guides and maintenance documentation.
  9. Maintain communication channels across editorial, engineering, and creative services teams.
  10. Exercise and demonstrate sound judgment to determine the most appropriate action in critical situations.
  11. Provides proactive patch/upgrade planning including version compatibility.
  12. Travel onsite for creative training, implementations, change management needs, and production services.
  13. Troubleshoot technical/systems and issues that may arise during complicated project deployments.

Qualifications:

  1. A minimum of 5+ years experience either in Virtual Production operational capacity or equal.
  2. Technical Support/Product Specialist skills.
  3. A minimum of 5+ years experience in real-time Sports or News broadcast productions.
  4. Deep knowledge of VP/MR production.
  5. Expert knowledge of camera tracking and video engineering (SDI and video over IP workflows.)
  6. Knowledge of computer technologies (Hardware/OS), Studio lighting, Unreal Engine and networking.
  7. You must be able to work to tight deadlines.
  8. Experience in conducting operational/technical training/demonstrations; one-on-one or in small groups.
  9. Experience using MAM, AWS, Azure Cloud, Real-Time Graphics Engines, Linux, Windows 10 and Windows Server platforms.
  10. Excellent problem-solving and prioritization skills.
  11. Ability to work within strict timelines in an organized manner.
  12. Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite, 3D modeling platforms, Substance 3D, ZBrush and any other design platforms.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $155,000.00 – 180,000.00. The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position is bonus eligible.
