We seek an experienced and results-driven SEO Team Leader to lead and inspire our SEO team, including both on-page and off-page strategists. The ideal candidate will be a skilled SEO expert with a strong leadership background and proven management experience. As the SEO Team Leader, you will oversee a team of SEO strategists, develop and support SEO strategies, mentor teammates, and ensure the smooth execution of campaigns while tracking and reporting departmental data such as P&L and team KPIs.
Key Responsibilities
SEO Strategy and Execution:
- Collaborate with strategists to enhance their strategies to improve organic search rankings and drive traffic to client websites.
- Support in strategy development (without needing to create strategies for every client); be able to speak knowledgeably about the strategists' choices and provide assistance where necessary.
- Assist with detailed keyword research to identify growth opportunities across client accounts and various industry types.
- Conduct on-page SEO audits and collaborate with web developers to implement necessary changes.
- Oversee content optimization, ensuring all content follows best SEO practices.
- Ability to implement thoughtful and intentional link-building strategies.
Leadership & Management:
- Lead and manage a team of 10 SEO strategists, providing guidance, coaching, career development, and performance feedback.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and accountability within the SEO team.
- Establish clear and focused team goals, delegate tasks effectively, and ensure teammates meet deadlines and deliverables.
- Manage workloads, assign projects, and ensure that resources are allocated efficiently to meet client objectives.
- Provide leadership during client presentations, strategy sessions, and internal planning meetings.
Client Management:
- Serve as the main point of contact for high-level SEO projects and client engagements.
- Collaborate with account managers and other departments (content, design, development) to ensure strategies align with broader marketing goals.
- Regularly report on SEO campaign performance to clients, translating technical SEO data into actionable business insights.
Conflict Resolution & Problem-Solving:
- Proactively identify potential issues within campaigns or team dynamics and implement solutions to keep projects on track.
- Resolve internal or client conflicts related to SEO strategy, team member performance, and personal differences, ensuring a cohesive path forward.
Innovation & Industry Expertise:
- Stay up-to-date with the latest search engine algorithms, best practices, and industry trends.
- Lead team training sessions and mentorship programs to continuously develop SEO expertise within the department.
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field is a plus; equal experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience in an SEO-specific role, preferably in a digital marketing agency.
- 3+ years of management experience, demonstrating success in leading teams and delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Familiarity with tracking and reporting departmental data (P&L, team KPIs, etc.) is a plus.
- Experience with remote teams is a plus.
- Strong understanding of Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and SEO tools like SEMrush, Ahrefs, or Moz.
- Excellent knowledge of on-page, off-page, and technical SEO.
- Experience with content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress, Shopify, etc.
- Strong communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to make strategic decisions with limited information and adapt to changing environments.
- Proven experience managing a portfolio of SEO clients.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
