Join Wedge Ceramics and contribute to our thriving artist community in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn as the studio manager. At Wedge, we care about building and maintaining a kind, supportive, and communal environment for full-time, aspiring, and hobby ceramicists.

The opportunity

As the studio manager, you’ll:

  • Respond promptly to emails from prospective members regarding studio membership inquiries.
  • Schedule and coordinate studio tours for interested individuals and groups.
  • Conduct engaging tours of the studio, highlighting facilities and membership benefits.
  • Facilitate the onboarding process for new members, providing them with essential information and resources.
  • Manage kiln schedule and support with loading and unloading when necessary.
  • Prepare and mix glazes according to studio standards and member needs.
  • Manage ongoing communications with members, including providing studio updates.
  • Document and manage billing for firing fees, ensuring accuracy and timely invoicing.
  • Manage studio inventory and order materials as needed to maintain stock levels.
  • Oversee kiln and equipment maintenance to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Organize and execute community events that foster connection and collaboration among members.
  • Create innovative programming and workshops tailored to enhance member skills and creativity.

Your skills and experience

You enjoy interacting with people, have a hospitality mind-set and are engaged in the Brooklyn/NYC art community.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Ceramics, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience in ceramics production and knowledge of various techniques.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, including proficiency in inventory management.
  • Excellent communication skills for member engagement and community outreach.
  • Familiarity with kiln operation, maintenance, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to develop and implement programming and events for members.
  • Experience in teaching or mentoring in a studio setting is a plus.

Wedge Ceramics is a membership-only ceramics studio in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn (by the Navy Yard). We are a community of ceramicists who are comfortable working independently and don’t require day-to-day support when making work. We value respect and kindness and aim to foster an inclusive environment for ceramicists of varying skill levels, from full-time ceramicists to hobbyists.
