Responsibilities
The Fire Technical Director is responsible for quality and efficiency of all technical aspects of engineering across the Fire discipline. The Fire Technical Director manages the implementation of quality-related strategies and directs policies and procedures appropriate to their technical focus areas. The Fire Technical Director contributes technical oversight to business decisions and execution of projects to ensure alignment with the organization's technical expertise and work pursuits. The Fire Technical Director works cooperatively with sector and organizational leadership teams to define and mobilize organization-wide strategies. This position is heavily matrixed and may include accountabilities to the Chief Technical Officer, Sector Executives and/or technical quality team leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in any engineering, construction management, science, or technology preferred. Years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of requisite education.
- 10 or greater years of relevant experience required.
- A minimum of five years leadership/management experience, preferred.
- Superior knowledge in discipline of expertise and track record of technical excellence in such field.
- History of contributing to technically sound teams, as well as ability to motivate and coach others.
- Extensive knowledge of the technical needs of the industry and proven track record of quality monitoring, maintenance and improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to partner with cross-functional teams to align efforts and meet organizational goals.
Skills and Duties
Operations:
- Defines and cascades goals and accountabilities for implementation of technical quality strategy appropriate for the business and growth needs within their discipline.
- Directs, develops, monitors, and implements policies and procedures appropriate to technical execution, including quality assurance, process improvement, Engineer of Record (EOR) and licensing/certification needs, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and corporate guidelines.
- Teams with sector leadership to align sector engineering approach with company-wide discipline approach.
- Provides technical expertise in support of risk management team to resolve project disputes.
Profitability:
- Contributes to strategic decisions involving technical expertise and development needs in response to current and future industry demands.
- Develops the annual budget for corporate investment within their discipline in cooperation with the sector leadership teams. Manages aspects of the budget related to technical execution to maximize profits.
- Aligns sector technical processes and execution in support of organization goals and strategies.
- Collaborates to identify opportunities to leverage technical strengths in pursuit of new work to ensure a successful outcome.
