Purpose
The Director is responsible for leading and setting the direction of the Clinisys User Experience Design team that is accountable for ensuring a consistent and coherent experience across all Clinisys solutions through the provision of the Clinisys Design System (design guidance & components), expertise, tools, and governance.
Essential Functions
- Defining and maintaining the UX strategy for all solutions which are sold into an international market and must support different languages, workflows and regulatory requirements that vary by market.
- Leading and managing a globally distributed multi-disciplinary team of designers and developers.
- Demonstrating thought leadership by contributing subject matter expertise in all areas of User Experience and ownership of the Clinisys Design System.
- Collaborating with the global architecture team to maintain alignment with the company’s application technology strategy as well with Product Development Managers and Product Managers to help set priorities and influence product plans to improve the end user experience and ensure a consistent adoption of the Clinisys Design System.
- Roadmap driven development of the Clinisys Design System. Delivered using Figma and Storybook it provides product development teams with UI design guidelines and componentry for implementing the UI elements that must be consistent across all Clinisys applications.
- Regularly reporting out to various leaders and teams in the company about design system releases, adoption, success stories, KPIs, and best practices.
- Selecting, developing, and evaluating third parties to ensure the efficient operation of the group and the ability to scale up and down to meet product development needs.
- Establishing and operating a User Experience Governance process as an integrated part of the Clinisys Software development lifecycle.
- Forecasting resource workload and managing project assignments based on availability and product development roadmaps.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills Needed to be Successful
- Strong analytical capabilities for identifying and resolving design trade-offs and a good knowledge of agile software product design and implementation.
- Demonstrated leadership and planning abilities in directing design and technical activities and documenting and communicating strategy and designs.
- Must be able to advise, influence and guide senior leaders of all levels throughout the organization.
- Advocacy for the role of user experience, design, and research in making data-driven design decisions.
- Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following design systems: Fluent Design, Material Design.
- Proven experience with Design tools such as Figma, Storybook, Invision and Sketch.
- Experience with managing cross-disciplinary projects using tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
- Deep experience with complex application development programs and projects involving user experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of user experience principles and standards including WCAG.
- The use of multiple user research methodologies, such as lab studies, field research, iterative prototype testing, and surveys/questionnaires.
Required Experience & Education
- Bachelor’s degree in human-computer interaction, cognitive science, or related design field or equivalent relevant work experience.
- 7 years’ experience managing creative teams (UX architects, designers, front-end developers) and cross-functional work groups that are developing complex applications.
- 7 years’ experience as a UX practitioner designing application user interfaces via information architecture documentation, user scenarios, user flows, visual designs, and interactive prototypes.
Preferred Experience & Education
- Master’s degree in human-computer interaction, cognitive science, or related design field.
- Experience designing user interfaces for SAAS cloud applications developed as modern web apps using technology such as ReactJS, CSS and Typescript.
- An understanding of application instrumentation and how it can be used to provide telemetry and insights into how applications are being used by people.
- Experience in one or more of the following design systems: Fluent Design, Material Design.
- The role of Design Systems in promoting a consistent user experience across a portfolio of complex line-of-business solutions, ideally in healthcare or laboratory operations.
- Experience with Design tools such as Figma, Storybook, Invision and Sketch.
- Experience with managing cross-disciplinary projects using tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- 5-15 direct reports with indirect reports numbering up to 75.

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position who is generally within the range of $118,000 to $165,000 for annual base salary. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay may be above or below this range.

Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in a normal office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- 50% Travel may be required.
- Moderate lifting/carrying 15-44 lbs.; use of fingers; walking/standing 2-6 hours.
- Exposure to hazardous materials or various weather conditions.
- Travel to client sites that can pose risk associated with healthcare organization.
- May be required to follow customer location health and safety requirements.
