Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a Junior to Mid-Level Product Design and User Interface Patent Associate Attorney to join its team in Nashville, TN. This role involves working on patent preparation and prosecution related to cutting-edge technologies such as software, artificial intelligence, IoT, networking, and quantum technologies. The ideal candidate will have strong academic achievements, industry experience, and a law firm background, along with excellent writing and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and prosecute patent applications related to software, artificial intelligence, IoT, networking, and quantum technologies.
- Conduct thorough patent searches and analyze technical documents to determine patentability.
- Assist clients in the design and execution of intellectual property strategies, particularly in product design and user interface technologies.
- Work closely with inventors, engineers, and in-house legal teams to draft patent applications.
- Manage patent portfolios and guide patent infringement and validity matters.
- Respond to Office Actions from the USPTO and ensure compliance with patent laws and regulations.
- Collaborate with senior attorneys to provide legal advice and strategies on patent-related matters.
- Assist with patent litigation support and other intellectual property-related legal work as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- 2+ years of patent preparation and prosecution experience, ideally within a law firm setting.
- Bachelor or advanced degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field.
- Experience with software-related technologies, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), networking, and/or quantum technologies.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Strong knowledge of patent law and familiarity with USPTO procedures.
- Experience drafting and prosecuting patents in the fields of software, AI, IoT, and quantum technologies.
- Ability to analyze complex technical documents and draft precise, clear legal documentation.
- Familiarity with product design and user interface patents.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple cases simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on client interaction and collaboration.
- Prior experience working in a team-oriented environment.
Certifications:
- Admission to the Bar in at least one state, preferably Tennessee, or the ability to become admitted.
- USPTO registration is required.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
