Job Description

Providence is calling a Senior Archivist - Visual Resources who will work on a hybrid set-up in Seattle, WA office. This position serves both the Sisters of Providence (Mother Joseph Province) and Providence Health & Services. The primary responsibility is managing the selection, preservation, processing, and access to visual resources in all formats including print collections, negatives, film, videotape, and born-digital assets in Providence Archives. The incumbent manages the digital asset management system (DAM) and helps to maintain and add records to the content management system (CMS).

The nature of some historical and visual material requires confidentiality and good judgment when dealing with such records. The incumbent performs all duties in a manner that promotes Providence mission, values, and philosophy, serving as a role model for the values and mission of the organization.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in History, American Studies or related discipline with knowledge of photograph conservation and history of photographic processes. An appropriate combination of work experience and education may be substituted for a degree.
  • 5 years of archives experience involving administration of photographic and visual resources, preservation, arrangement and description, reference and coordination responsibilities.
  • 3 years of experience with archival database software required. Familiarity with archival preservation standards and reformatting options is required.
  • 3 years of thorough knowledge of standard Microsoft Office applications is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in a related discipline with archival studies coursework or equivalent education/experience.
  • Current certification by the Academy of Certified Archivists.
