ASRC Federal Highland Technology is actively seeking a Technical Writer to join our team. The selected candidate will support a government client in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Position Description: As a Technical Writer, you will collaborate closely with software engineers, product managers, and quality assurance teams to develop, maintain, and refine help documentation that supports end-users. You will collaborate with the Tech Docs Lead on initiatives to improve help content, so that it better meets users’ needs. This position, and the teams you will be working with, are 100% remote. Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, computer science, or another technical field. 7+ years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree would be acceptable.
  • Experience: 3–5 years of technical writing experience in a software development environment, writing enterprise-level end-user documentation.
  • Communication skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
  • Technical aptitude: Ability to quickly come up to speed in new technical domains.

Preferred Skills:

  • Practical experience with the SAFe, Scrum or Kanban agile methodologies.
  • Familiarity with basic HTML, CSS, or markdown.
  • Basic knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git) for managing documentation changes.
  • Proficiency with MadCap Flare or similar authoring tools, such as Adobe FrameMaker.
  • Knowledge of Jira, Confluence, and other Agile project management tools.
  • Experience writing lean, task-oriented content.
  • Experience working remotely.

The successful candidate is subject to a background investigation by the government and must be able to meet the requirements to hold a position of public trust.

U.S. Citizen or H1B Visa or Green Card holder with 3 year consistent residency.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Documentation development: Create, edit, and maintain high-quality technical documentation that meets writing standards and adds value to the software solution.
  2. User-centered approach: Create documentation that is user-friendly and addresses the needs of both novice and expert users, with a focus on clear, concise, and accurate information.
  3. Participation in Scaled Agile Events: Apply your understanding of Scaled Agile practices by effectively participating in PI Planning, Inspect & Adapt, iteration planning, stand-ups, demos, retrospectives, and other agile ceremonies. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan, do, check and adjust.
  4. Review and edit: Participate in peer reviews and apply feedback to maintain a high standard of documentation quality. Continuously refine content to reflect new features, changes, or feedback.
  5. Contribute: Look for ways to improve how we do documentation and contribute to our authoring guide.
