TDI Technologies, Inc. (TDI) has an immediate opening for a full-time Sr. Technical Writer in San Diego, California. Qualified candidates must have proven technical writing skills and experience writing technical manuals according to MIL-SPEC. The position will also require project management knowledge and experience specializing in developing, publishing, and maintaining professional, concise manuals such as user guides, operation manuals, maintenance manuals, logistics support manuals, configuration management plans/manuals, and training manuals.

Qualified candidates will be highly skilled in all Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as have a strong knowledge of Windows 7 and Windows 10 and other associated desktop publishing software or similar software expertise.

Candidates will be tasked with day-to-day support providing customer and technical support, planning, and optimization for the department, as well as being responsible for developing and maintaining a strong relationship with management.

Duties:

  • Prepares technical documentation by generating technical content and converting technical descriptions into user-understandable language.
  • Reviews the documentation content for accuracy, consistency, and grammar. Provides suggested changes and confers with the author to resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepares layout by writing, editing, keying, and copying text; creating and importing graphics; converting, scanning, and enhancing photographs, images, and art into digital images; completing color separations.
  • Formats the documents IAW the project's Styleguide.
  • Converts approved Word documents and Excel spreadsheets to PDFs.
  • Manages resources of draft and final released technical documentation by filing and organizing publications and files on the project share drive.
  • Stores approved PDFs on the share drive.
  • Archives previously released versions of documents on the share drive.
  • Provides the document master copy to the System Administrator for filing on the Control Drive.
  • Tracks and manages the documentation peer-review process from inception to release.
  • Notifies reviewers of overdue documents and coordinates obtaining a timely review.
  • Notifies the team by email when a document has been released.
  • Interfaces with customers by attending weekly Program Manager meetings.
  • Prepares and provides the status report for the PM meeting.
  • Completes projects by coordinating with Engineering, Fielded Systems Support, and Site Coordinators.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in writing user guides, operation manuals, maintenance manuals, logistics support manuals, configuration management plans/manuals, and training manuals according to MIL-SPEC.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office, including creating templates and formatting in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, and hyperlinks in Microsoft Excel.
  • Active Secret clearance.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Visio is a plus.

Travel: Travel outside the region may be up to 10%.
