Position Summary:
The English Department at The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Writing and Rhetoric with a concentration in Writing Studies, beginning August 2025. The position is a full-time, academic-year appointment in a department with a growing Writing and Rhetoric emphasis program. Our new colleague will teach upper-level courses in writing and rhetoric, genre studies, and writing pedagogy, as well as first-year writing.
Strong candidates will demonstrate expertise in writing studies; evidence of teaching effectiveness; strong collaboration and written communication skills; and potential for professional flexibility in teaching and curriculum development. A preferred secondary specialty for applicants is research, teaching experience, and/or professional development in emerging writing technologies. Online teaching experience is also preferred.
We seek a colleague who will be a dedicated teacher, engaged colleague, active scholar, and effective mentor for students with varied backgrounds and career goals. The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse is a high-ranking comprehensive university specializing in teaching (teaching load is 4/4). Candidates must have a PhD in Writing & Rhetoric or a related field. ABD candidates will also be considered, with an understanding that their degree will be conferred by the end of the first academic year.

Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Writing & Rhetoric or a comparable field completed by the end of the first academic year.
- Ability to teach first-year writing and upper-level classes in writing studies and rhetoric.
- Evidence of undergraduate teaching effectiveness.
- Evidence of/potential for scholarship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to teach an undergraduate course in writing pedagogy.
- Scholarly interest in emerging writing technologies.
- Commitment to student recruitment and retention.
- Online teaching experience.
