As a Project Designer on the Perkins&Will team, your skills and passion will come to life through the following responsibilities:
- Understands and consistently executes all aspects of the design process and project complexities to proactively contribute to the overall success of the team while adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence in design, execution, and living design.
- Prepares schematic designs that optimize design solutions and plans with responsibility for presentation drawings, models, and narratives.
- Understands overall project goals and constraints, including client values, construction and design budget limitations, and schedule requirements.
- Evaluates design alternatives based on site and code requirements.
- Applies knowledge of building technology, building materials, construction methods, costs, and code to the design process.
- Understands and responds to technical implications and design decisions.
- Prepares client presentation packages, external publications, and award submissions.
- Participates in marketing opportunities and develops successful client relationships for continuing business.
- Uses graphic storytelling to advance the project delivery and scope.
- Reviews work for accuracy, omissions, legibility, and for document compliance in accordance with the Project Delivery Manual.
- Participates and collaborates in internal design reviews, charettes, and pin-ups and external community engagements.
- Demonstrates strong and effective communication and direction which inspires high team performance and design ideas.
- Coordinates effectively with partners and consultants throughout the schematic and design development phases.
To join us as a Project Designer, you should have:
- 8+ years of experience
- Bachelor's degree in architecture or related discipline
- Preparing for ARE and active involvement in AXP
- Proficient in BIM, building codes, site analysis, design studies, contract documentation, field measurements, life safety, specifications, and construction administration.
- Advanced in 2D/3D production tools, Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper, Enscape, VRay, and environmental analysis tools (Ladybug, Climate Studio).
- Proficient in graphic storytelling, sketching, and using Adobe Suite, InDesign, Photoshop, as well as physical modeling tools (3D printing, laser cutting).
- LEED GA within 6 months of hire
- Professional Accreditation in one area of Living Design that interests you: LEED AP with Specialty, BREEAM AP, WELL AP, SITES AP, Passive House Institute Certified Passive House Consultant/Designer CPHC/CPHD, or ILFI Living Future Accreditation.
