Graphic Designer / Production Specialist
We are an established full-service printing and marketing company growing at a rapid rate.
We are looking for a graphic designer/Production Specialist that has experience working at a printing company and is familiar with digital and large format printing.
As a Graphic Designer / Production Specialist, you will have a dual role working in the computer room and production room.
- In the computer room: You will be responsible for creating pre-press artworks for both long and short format printing. Database management for direct mail campaigns and personalized printed materials.
- In the production room: You will be responsible for all aspects of printing and cutting jobs in both short and long format printing.
The ideal candidate will be a creative, self-motivated team player, with problem-solving skills who pays very close attention to accuracy and detail. Should be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and who is determined to make every project his or her absolute best. Able to work on different projects simultaneously while maintaining extreme attention to detail and high-quality control.
Skills we are looking for:
- Two years’ education in graphic design, 1-year practical experience with 1 year of print production experience with advanced level of experience using Adobe applications (Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop).
- Working understanding of dual platform applications, such as: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Acrobat.
- Knowledge of PDF and PostScript files and PDF plug-ins.
- Basic math skills (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers and fractions and converting fractions to decimals and vice versa).
- Must have a positive and upbeat attitude, even in heavy traffic and unusual driving conditions.
- Must be hard-working and self-motivated.
- Must have excellent verbal and communication skills.
- Meet or exceed minimum test results as specified by the hiring manager.
Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Completes pre-press setup in Adobe-based platforms (Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) for both Mac and PC and prepare files for print and cut.
- Provides proofs as necessary.
- Managing databases, mergers, and file preparation for direct mail and/or personalized printed materials.
- Inspects jobs for accuracy before sending them to the printer or cutter.
- Outputs digital files per job specifications.
- Schedules all work to meet customer time frame requirements. Monitors deadlines and reports conflicts to management to establish priorities BEFORE the jobs are due.
- Able to manage and optimize workload, prioritize multiple projects, and cost-effectively streamline the production flow.
- Performs production requirements in a timely and efficient manner.
- Offers graphic design ideas, solutions, and alternatives based on customer input.
- Operates and maintains prepress computer, printer, and other equipment (PC and Mac), scanner, and RIPs.
- Becomes proficient in the current technology for creating graphics, documents, and digital files utilizing existing equipment and materials.
- Follows up with customers on all proofs.
- Monitors system for digital files sent by customers.
- Preflights digital files for potential problems.
- Performs regular computer backup and archives customer files for safekeeping and for easy retrieval.
- Purges obsolete files.
- Operates all equipment, software, and devices in an expert fashion and is willing to teach others - large format HP and UV flatbed printers, large format laminators, and CNC router.
- Monitors inventory of supplies needed and keeps supplies neat and orderly.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
- Capable of performing all troubleshooting procedures.
- Establishes and maintains effective team relationships with all support departments.
- Good communication and people skills.
- Follows all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes.
- Able to work well under pressure to output high volume, high-quality work.
- Able to sit and view a computer screen for long periods.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills would be ideal.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
