Overview

Staff Writer (NPAO):

Bowhead is seeking a Staff Writer for an upcoming effort located at the Navy Yard in Washington, DC. The Staff Writer will provide execution support for all enterprise-wide internal and external communications; this may include marketing requirements and legislative engagements, and other efforts as required.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement innovative communications strategies for organizational initiatives and programs.
• Write and edit news copy and long-form writing (feature articles, stories, etc.) according to the Navy and Associated Press Style Book.
• Demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and oral, including the ability to produce concise and properly edited content.
• Synthesize complex ideas and initiatives into easily understood communications for a variety of audiences.
• Interact with various audiences and convey information with varying levels of understanding of acquisition programs and priorities.
• Think strategically to identify needs and requirements, and develop recommendations and solutions.
• Manage small and large-scale projects that contribute to a larger strategic communications plan.
• Manage competing priorities under strict deadlines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail; work effectively with senior leaders in a high-profile and demanding office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Arts/Science degree in English or Communications.
• Five years of civilian or military experience writing as depicted in the applicant’s portfolio/writing samples.
• Well-versed in using the AP Style guide.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

Target salary is $110,000/year to $118,000/year commensurate with experience.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
• Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time.
• Must be able to twist, bend, and squat periodically.

Security Clearance Requirements

Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
