JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Engineering Specification Writer is the central source for all Viega specifications and functions as a liaison with Viega’s third-party specification services. This position is responsible for writing specifications for plumbing, HVAC, and other piping systems, and for ensuring that all Viega products are in every applicable section of our customers’ master specifications.

JOB DESCRIPTION DETAILS

Responsibilities

  • Receives specifications for updating from Inside Sales, field sales and customers, reviews to ensure specifications are current and accurate, and updates as needed.
  • Reviews drawings and other documents to write and edit specifications for projects and coordinates compliance with project requirements, client guidelines, and technical conditions.
  • Interprets the project and materials requirements to determine applicable specifications sections and provide package to customer.
  • Maintains accounts and specifications with third-party specification services.
  • Maintains a library catalog of all application documentation for internal and/or external use.
  • Publishes and maintains templates for all written specifications, ensuring all documents produced are uniform in their formatting.
  • Provides training as needed to the field team on best specification practices.
  • Continuously attends internal and external training sessions to maintain up-to-date product knowledge and the latest in specification needs.
  • Coordinates specifications with Building Information modeling (BIM) strategies and specification writing software.
  • Utilizes ViegaForce to communicate with internal stakeholders and for tracking metrics.
  • Gives input and support regarding training initiatives.

  • Attends meetings as required and/or assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required and/or assigned.
  • May be required to travel up to 20%.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Detailed understanding of specification formatting (Construction Specifications Institute - CSI).
  • Detailed knowledge of specification sections 21 (Fire Suppression), 22 (Plumbing), and 23 (HVAC).
  • Knowledge of construction procedures and schedules.
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail and organization skills.
  • Effectively manages multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Knowledge of general engineering practices and their applications.
  • Proficient in the use of common office equipment and software – including: computers, printers, and Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent analytical and time management skills.

Education, Certification/License & Work Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree in a technical field such as Architecture or Engineering preferred.
  • 3-5 years of related work experience (10 years if no college degree) required.
  • CCCA, CCS, CDT, or CCPR certification from Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) preferred.
  • Work experience with specification services such as Deltek MasterSpec or RIB SpecLink preferred.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Total Rewards Package:

Compensation:

  • Base: $80,000 - $100,000 annually, based on specific compensable factors including, but not limited to education, work experience, and geographic market.
  • Bonus: This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
