Summary of Position

The Red Rocks Community College STEM Department is seeking a part-time instructor to teach Engineering Graphics Technology courses.

We are looking for an enthusiastic professional with a passion for teaching and helping students succeed. The successful candidate has a strong commitment to effective, engaging teaching and creates a class environment that encourages learning. The instructor must be patient and respectful, while also providing clear expectations for what is considered acceptable work. The instructor must display dedication to the class as well as to the goals of the program.

Part-time instructor responsibilities include instruction, student assessment, and other related instructional duties. Instructional delivery will primarily be asynchronously online for pooled course sections through the Colorado Online@ consortium, in which students register from throughout the Colorado Community College System (CCCS). Potential future face-to-face classes may be held days, evenings, and weekends.

This position reports to the department chair within the discipline and does not supervise other employees. Occasional meetings or trainings may also be scheduled outside of regular work hours. The finalist must be willing to make Colorado their primary workplace, including for online classes.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to teach students online and face-to-face.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach students using traditional and alternative methods of instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into the classroom where appropriate.
  • Demonstrated ability in Programming Languages, such as Arduino, Python, JavaScript, and/or Matlab. Demonstrated CAD Experience: Solidworks, Autodesk, Tinkercad, OnShape.
  • Demonstrated Professional Engineering Communication: Project Management, Engineering Design Reports, and professional presentations. Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
Required Qualifications:
  • A Master's degree in one of the related degrees: Engineering, Physics, or Applied Mathematics from an accredited institution.
  • Fifteen (15) semester credit hours teaching experience.
  • Experience in at least one of the following: curriculum development, supervision, instruction, evaluation, or academic advising.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A master's or Ph.D. in Engineering from an academic institution accredited by ABET.
  • One or more years of industry engineering experience.
  • One semester of teaching Engineering Design to community college students.
  • Teaching or experience in high school STEM programming.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and skills.

  • Constantly uses a computer and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports classroom and office equipment and supplies weighing up to 10 lbs.

Advertised Hourly Pay
The pay for this position is $1,149.00 - $1,810.50 per credit hour, commensurate with education and experience. This is a part-time, FLSA exempt position and may work up to 28 hours per week, depending on budget and need. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.

Medical insurance is offered to instructors and other variable hour employees who have worked, on average, at least 30 hours per week in a 12-month period. RRCC/CCCS uses an initial 12-month measurement period to determine medical benefit eligibility, and a 12-month standard measurement period. Student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours a week when classes are in session, and may work up to 28 hours a week, during academic breaks or breaks between terms at the discretion of the college, and non-classified hourly and temporary staff are limited to 28 hours in a workweek, depending on budget and need. Sick leave is granted in accordance with , accrued at one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.

Instructors and non-student hourly are required to contribute to at a fixed percentage of their salary and do not contribute to Social Security.
