Overview:

Princeton University Library is seeking a Library Collections Specialist VI at the Mendel Music Library. Reporting to the Library Operations Supervisor, this library assistant position supports collections services, public services, course reserves, and outreach in the Music Library. Mendel Music Library serves Princetons vibrant music and performing arts community, which includes the Department of Music and the programs in dance, music theater, and theater at the Lewis Center for the Arts.

Responsibilities:
  • Contributes to collections services, leading stacks and collection maintenance projects
  • Supervises public services in the late afternoon and early evening, responding to patron questions and troubleshooting issues
  • Organizes and processes faculty course reserve requests, facilitating world class research
  • Assists in managing the public services student staff
  • Serves as outreach and exhibits coordinator, highlighting to our community the Music Library's services, resources, special events, and exhibits
  • Scans print materials for reserves and document delivery services

The Library Collections Specialist will work 10am-6pm, Monday through Friday, in the Woolworth Center for Music.



Qualifications:

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of three years of library experience or equivalent, with demonstrated ability to manage collections and circulation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage time and projects effectively
  • Supervisory experience
  • Ability to read music and recognize different types of notation, familiarity with music history and theory, and knowledge of forms, genres, and instruments corresponding to specific time periods and/or locations
  • Familiarity with Alma or other ILS systems, OCLC, and other major bibliographic databases
  • Facility with email, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office applications, along with a willingness to learn new technology
  • Ability to work well in a team-based environment
  • Physical requirements include bending and stretching, lifting books, and moving large book trucks
  • High School diploma or GED

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree. BA or BM, with concentration in music or performing arts
  • Bibliographic competency of Western European languages
  • Familiarity with cataloging and metadata record structures (including the MARC21 metadata schema) and content standards (including RDA and authority structure and standards)
