The Digital Product Experience (DPX) Department at ACS drives innovation in digital channels to enhance communication and collaboration within the chemistry community. Its mission is to develop and refine powerful online platforms that advance the chemical enterprise, with a focus on the quality and effectiveness of ACS's digital properties, including ACS.org. Position Summary
As a UX/UI Design Intern at the American Chemical Society (ACS), you'll play a vital role in shaping the digital experiences of our diverse organization. We are seeking a versatile UX/UI Designer with a strong focus on visual UI design to join our team. You'll work closely with our design team and cross functional teams to create intuitive and engaging user interfaces for our websites and applications.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with UX Designers and product managers to translate user needs into visually appealing and functional
designs.
- Create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to visualize design concepts.
- Collaborate with developers to implement design solutions.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest design trends and technologies.
- Assist with the design and development of ACS Design System
Qualifications:
- Strong visual design skills and a keen eye for detail
- Currently enrolled or a recent graduate, in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of UX design principles and methodologies.
- Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD.
- Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is a plus.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Passion for creating user-centered designs.
Education Requirements:
The Ideal candidate will be a rising college junior, senior, recent graduate or pursuing a Masters/ PHD in UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
Required Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a major in UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.

Pay Transparency: This role is based in our Washington, D.C. office. The following are the intended hourly rates for this part time/nonexempt role: Rising Junior-$23.00; Rising Senior-$24.00; Current Grad/PhD Student- $27.00.
Any actual offer of employment, reflecting the total compensation package and benefits, will be made in the sole discretion of ACS. ACS reserves the right to amend or modify its employment benefits and compensation structure at any time.
*This position will be primarily based in the Washington D.C. (or applicable) office. ACS employees work a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite, two days per week. Schedule flexibility may be required for this role to support in-office activities. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other three days of the week from a location of their choice.
