Duties and Responsibilities Associated with Preparation and Practice for Liturgies:

Director of Music Ministry duties and responsibilities for music at Liturgies include the following:
- Plays at Vigil Mass on Saturday (consideration given for scheduled vacations/holidays)
- Plays at 9 am & 11 am on Sunday (consideration given for scheduled vacations/holidays)
- Plays at one Sunday evening Mass per month
- Worship committee & meetings
- Leadership committee & meetings
- Diocesan musician meetings
- Coordination/participation of Christmas & Easter seasons, including Christmas concert before midnight Mass and sung divine mercy chaplet on Good Friday
- Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, Solemnities, Holy Days of Obligation, All Souls Mass, Civic Holidays (Memorial day, 4th of July, Labor day, Thanksgiving) (If special Mass held - ex: Veteran's Mass)
- Various Liturgical & Seasonal events
- Encounter nights (praise and worship nights)
- Penance Services in Advent and Lent
- 8th Grade Graduation (Spring)
- First Holy Communion (Spring)
- Confirmation (Spring)
- May Crowning Mass (Spring)
- School Hosted Masses and other Masses with youth choir: Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, Back to school Mass (ice cream social), and Mass to kickoff Catholic Schools week *These are scheduled on our weekly Mass schedules
- Opening Mass for Religious Education
- Music for Eucharistic Adoration for school and religious education
- Weddings and Funerals
- Special events off campus such as caroling at nursing home and Clinton Township Tree lighting ceremony
Duties and Responsibilities Associated with Preparation and Practice for Liturgies:
- Coordination and direction of cantors, youth choir, and adult choir
- Prepare music for Masses - researching, selecting, etc.
- Choir rehearsals on a weekly basis during the school year. Consideration will be given to typical vacations/ holidays.
- Recruit choir members/cantors through regular announcements and personal contacts
- Plan and organize music for all liturgies in cooperation with pastor
- As necessary meet with families for special Masses such as weddings and funerals
- Foster active, conscious singing in the congregation, including teaching the congregation new music when necessary
- Expand working knowledge and appreciation of Catholic liturgical and musical traditions
- Help cantors/choir members grow in their musical talents
- Assure that parish use of music conforms to Church and diocesan directives
- Maintain an active liaison with diocesan director of music
- Maintain professional skills through personal practice and continuing education opportunities
- Ensure all copyright licensing and usage reporting to music publishers is strictly adhered to.
- Recruit and maintain a bank of substitute musicians that can play the Roman Catholic liturgy. Schedule those musicians, with Pastor's approval, and submit check requests for renumeration.
- Oversee the maintenance of musical instruments/pieces including the organ, piano, microphones.
- Provide encouragement, evaluation, and appreciation to musicians of the parish including annual meal in gratitude for choirs
- Keeps records of music budget
- Has knowledge of sound systems in the parish and their equipment
- Prepare worship aids as necessary
- Serves as a resource consultant for parish concerns regarding music, helping to educate staff, ministries of music, and congregation in developing their potential to understand the role of music in worship and to celebrate liturgies of musical quality.
- Evaluates the music program annually
- Is visibly present at principal parish events, keeping attuned to the living faith and real concerns of parishioners.
