Job Summary
The Communications and Public Relations Director leads Health Share’s strategic communications, developing messaging, brand identity, and public engagement across multiple channels. This role develops and executes communications strategies that amplify Health Share’s mission and ensure all messaging is culturally relevant, inclusive, and aligned with the diverse communities we serve. The Director ensures compliance with regulatory requirements for all member-facing communications. As the public information officer and primary spokesperson, the Director also manages relationships with external marketing, PR, and media consultants. The role is key in promoting Health Share’s mission, fostering member engagement, and delivering consistent, impactful communication through digital, print, and public outreach efforts. This position works collaboratively with external partners, as well as internal stakeholders.
Essential Responsibilities
Communications Strategy and Marketing Oversight
Develop aligned communications with Health Share’s strategic goals, ensuring all efforts support the organization’s mission and objectives across functional areas.
Lead integrated communications strategies, guiding messaging, media outreach, digital marketing, and design in partnership with senior leadership, program teams, and external consultants.
Utilize a health equity lens to help bring inclusive and culturally connected, equitable communication strategies.
Develop and implement communication policies to ensure consistency, quality, and effectiveness.
Manage social media strategy with the Communications Specialist to drive engagement and enhance Health Share’s digital presence.
Lead the Communications Work Group to ensure a unified approach to messaging across Health Share’s founding organizations.
Develop an annual communication strategy in collaboration with partners.
Partner with internal teams and external stakeholders to promote Health Share’s programs, initiatives, and values.
Oversee external vendors and consultants, ensuring quality delivery of marketing materials and digital initiatives while managing budget and timelines.
Media Relations
Develop and execute a proactive media strategy to elevate Health Share’s presence.
Serve as the primary spokesperson for Health Share, engaging with media in interviews, press briefings, and public statements.
Advise senior leadership on media relations strategies.
Track media coverage and measure the success of earned media campaigns.
Content and Material Production
Direct the creation of content for a wide range of internal and external communications.
Ensure the development of culturally relevant, accessible materials that align with Medicaid compliance standards.
Oversee development of messaging campaigns related to public health.
Collaborate with design consultants to develop print materials and digital assets.
Manage the production and distribution of materials.
Ensure website content is current and reflects the latest updates across Health Share’s programs and initiatives.
Management and Leadership
Manage team(s) and recommend team direction and goals in alignment with the organizational mission, vision, and values.
Identify work and staffing needs to meet work expectations; recruits and hires, using an equity, diversity, and inclusion lens.
Develop and oversee an annual operating budget for the communications department.
Plan, organize, schedule, and monitor work.
Lead the development, communication, and oversight of team and individual goals.
Evaluate employee performance and provide regular feedback to support success.

Education and/or Experience
Required:
Minimum 8 years’ experience in communications, public relations, or related field.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in strategic communications.
Minimum 3 years’ of serving as a media spokesperson.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a supervisory position.
Preferred:
Experience working in health care and nonprofit sectors.
