Full Time Faculty in Foundation Studio
We are searching for an experienced Full Time Faculty in Foundation Studio at our Goldsmith Campus - Westchester campus.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Full-Time Faculty, Foundation Studio role is a renewable non-tenure track, full-time, and benefits-eligible position. We are seeking an innovative educator proficient in digitally enhanced 2D and 3D courses, with a particular expertise in 3D rendering and printing as well as 2D digital design. The successful candidate will teach in our two areas of study in Foundation Studio: Contemporary Studio + Creative Action and Design and Color, depending on the applicant's experience. The primary area of focus for the position is Contemporary Studio + Creative Action (3D). Full-Time Faculty are responsible for teaching effectively, pursuing ongoing professional achievement, and contributing service to their home department and the College. The faculty position works closely with the Area Coordinator for Contemporary Studio + Creative Action, the Assistant Chair, and reports to the Chair of the Foundation Studio. Must be able to work efficiently, cooperatively, and collaboratively in a team environment.
CORE DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Full-Time Faculty are responsible for effective teaching, ongoing professional achievement, and service to their home department and the College. Fulfilling this work makes up 100% of their responsibilities.
Specific responsibilities include:
•Teach courses as scheduled and in alignment with the mission and learning outcomes of the Department and College: Hold a full-time studio course contact hour load, consisting of 18 contact hours per week or 9 credit hours each Fall and Spring semester, and perform service as noted.
•Prepare the syllabus and any supporting materials associated with teaching the course, and begin each semester fully prepared for classes.
•Evaluate and improve the course content and pedagogy relevant to contemporary approaches in art and design and academic and industry standards.
•Instruct and inspire students on the principles and practices of 2D and 3D design using Adobe Suit and Rhino, alongside other 3D rendering and printing techniques.
•Develop and deliver engaging course content that aligns with the department and institution and reflects the latest industry standards, integrating current and emerging trends.
•Provide hands-on guidance to students, fostering their creativity and technical proficiency.
•Evaluate student work and provide constructive feedback for continuous improvement.
•Maintain and develop expertise in digital design technology.
•Mentor students in assigned classes including student advisement and counseling of at-risk students.
•Evaluate and improve the course content and pedagogy relevant to contemporary approaches and academic and industry standards including introducing and discussing diverse topics beyond Euro-centric approaches and creating inclusive learning environment.
•Record attendance and grading in timely manner for students and the College's record keeping.
•Advise students outside of class hours regarding academic issues during the defined office hours. Refer students as needed to Student Affairs and other Campus Life resources.
•Serve 6 hours on average per week in service to the department and the College, as assigned by the Department Chair. Participate and contribute to College's shared governance system through Academic Assembly, Faculty Senate, Academic Assembly subcommittees, ad-hoc committees, task forces of various topics.
•Departmental service may include but is not limited to providing academic advising to departmental students, attending departmental meetings, organizing visiting artists & designer series for department, monitoring department lab hours, assisting chairs with scheduling courses and assigning physical resources, supervising classroom assistants, and representing department at internal and external events and occasions as assigned, etc.
•Contribute to Program assessment as scheduled.
•Maintain active creative and professional practices as well as continue active professional network.
•Support and mentor diverse students and their successful academic progress.
•Demonstrate commitment to student success and a healthy classroom environment.
•Demonstrate professionalism and cooperation with colleagues.
•Adhere to institutional policies and procedures.
•Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve department and college goals through sustained efforts and initiatives.

•Master's degree or equivalent professional experience •Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in first-year art and design fundamentals •Substantial knowledge of historical and contemporary artists and designers. •Proven expertise in digitally enhanced 2D and 3D design, with a focus on 3D software rendering and printing skills.•A strong understanding of the role of the first-year program in the art and design fields. •Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in the first-year program in art and design studies.•Professional standing as an actively practicing and exhibiting artist or designer.•Significant experience in teaching composition, using visual choices to produce representational and abstract art and design. Sustained record of creative and professional practice in a related field. •Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills. •Strong ability to work creatively and effectively with a diverse student body as part of a team of professional designers, artists, and educators.•Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, problem-solving skills, verbal, and written communication skills.•Comfortable working in a multicultural environment and committed to fostering an inclusive culture.•Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with various constituencies within Otis's diverse communities, internally and externally. •Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to a changing work environment. PREFERRED SKILLS and EXPERIENCE:
- Terminal degree in a related field.
- Preference will be given to individuals with expertise in digitally enhanced applications.
- Three years of teaching experience at a four-year accredited institution in first-year or advanced digitally enhanced 2D and 3D courses.
- Excellent working knowledge and skills in Adobe Suite, 3D digital rendering, and fabrication.
- Demonstrated ability to develop a successful course of study.
