AMDA College of the Performing Arts is seeking a dynamic and experienced educator to join our faculty as an Adjunct Instructor for the course Advanced Academic Writing II RES 511. This course is an integral part of our MA in Performance Studies program, specifically within the Arts Education concentration. The ideal candidate is not only knowledgeable and experienced in advanced academic writing but also capable of effectively teaching and mentoring graduate students as they refine their writing skills and navigate the complexities of academic publishing.

The MA in Performance Studies, with a concentration in Arts Education, is a one-year graduate program designed to provide students with a comprehensive and interdisciplinary exploration of course design, advanced pedagogy, and equity in the classroom. The program emphasizes the development of critical perspectives on the diverse pedagogical approaches and historical contexts that have influenced the evolution of performing arts education. Through rigorous research, critical examination, and innovative thinking, students are equipped to become advocates for meaningful change in educational contexts, fostering a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Providing instruction in accordance with curricula, course outlines, and class schedules.
  • Creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking.
  • Providing Instructions for the academic publishing landscape, including journal submission processes, peer review practices, and publication ethics.
  • Guiding students through the submission process for academic journals, books, and conference presentations.
  • Mentoring graduate students in their writing and research projects, offering constructive feedback and guidance through the academic publishing process.
  • Providing academic advice and support to students pursuing writing-related goals.
  • Providing a learning vehicle for diversity and inclusion content
  • Evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and assessing student work
  • Maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics
  • Maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas
  • Fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time adjunct faculty member
  • Maintaining accurate academic records
  • Performing other related duties as assigned


Required Educational Credentials:
  • A terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in English, Rhetoric, Composition, Communication, or a closely related field.
  • Strong academic credentials with specialized training in academic writing and research methodologies.


Required Professional Expertise:
  • A minimum of three years of teaching in advanced academic writing at graduate level. Experience with innovative teaching methodologies that focus on creating an engaging, student-centered learning environment
  • Scholarly Expertise: A robust record of scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals, books, or chapters, showcasing expertise in academic writing.
  • Experience in presenting research at academic conferences, with a history of successfully mentoring students in conference submission processes.
  • Demonstrate ability to design and implement course curricula, including syllabi, assignments, and assessments tailored for advanced learners.
  • Currency and depth of knowledge in the applicable professional field
  • Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and practices that enhance student success at higher education institutions, including effective use of technology
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service and providing a dynamic climate for life-long learning
  • Successful candidates will be able to apply their discipline expertise in a manner/context that is relevant to emerging performing artists, in an in person and online environment.
  • Active scholarship in related fields through workshops, conferences, or professional organizations that focus on writing education and academic publishing.


Position Information:
  • The schedule for this role is based on department needs.
  • The pay range for this position is $45 - $60 per hour for classroom teaching. For administrative tasks assigned or volunteered outside of classroom teaching hours will be paid at a standard hourly rate of $35.
  • This position is subject to a background check upon a conditional offer of employment and a reference check.
  • This is a fully in person role.
