Position Overview:

Global Citizen's Public Relations department is seeking a dynamic PR professional with a passion for innovating storytelling, a strong contact list of industry-leading journalists, and a drive to make a positive global impact.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with the tenacity to execute high level press campaigns in multiple international markets simultaneously, with the flexibility to adapt quickly, sharp attention to detail, a positive, solution-oriented mindset, tight organization skills, and the confidence to work with internal counterparts and external press agencies across all professional levels.

This role will be responsible for leading on outreach and maintaining relationships with journalists at key US media outlets and platforms, formulating innovative and timely pitches that elevate Global Citizen's campaigns, events and executive spokespeople to new and existing audiences across sectors. The Director, Public Relations will develop and execute PR strategies for priority initiatives in close coordination with the Brand Partnerships and Global Policy & Advocacy departments, with support from external PR agencies around the world. The ideal candidate will have a robust contact list of key reporters in verticals including music & entertainment, policy, philanthropy and/or business; outstanding writing and communication skills; confidence working across time zones, languages and cultures; experience working on large-scale live events; and knowledge of tools and platforms such as Muck Rack, Meltwater, and PR Newswire.

Key responsibilities:

Media Relations (50%)
    • Foster and maintain strong relationships with key reporters at top tier media outlets, including entertainment, hard news and political outlets, both domestically and internationally.
    • Ideate, pitch and secure innovative stories to reach key and new audiences, with a focus on Global Citizen's strategic objectives, vision and impact.
    • Identify and pursue interview and thought leadership opportunities for Global Citizen's senior executives and spokespeople at key events, conferences and summits, and on podcasts.

PR Campaigns & Events (30%)
    • Lead the execution of PR campaigns related to brand partnerships, consumer products and special projects.
    • Draft, proof and edit materials, including press releases, interview briefs, press statements, bios, backgrounders, etc.
    • Logistical coordination leading up to and during events, press conferences, junkets, briefings, etc. globally.
    • Assist with the day-to-day management of public relations agencies and contractor.

Team Administration (20%)
    • Liaise with all departments leading up to and during live events and tentpole campaigns in US and international markets.
    • Schedule meetings and calls with internal and external groups across time zones, including scheduling media interviews and briefings for executives.
    • Draft slides for presenting the PR team's results to the organization.
    • Maintain and organize the PR team drive and archives.

Required competencies include:
    • A Bachelor's or Masters degree or equivalent, ideally in Public Relations, Corporate Communications, Journalism or Marketing.
    • 5-8 years experience running global campaigns in entertainment, media or politics.
    • Strong media relationships across top tier hard news, entertainment and/or political media outlets, locally and/or globally.
    • Strong understanding of the global news landscape and the evolving digital media landscape, with a particular focus on new media and podcasts.
    • Excellent communication skills, with demonstrated ability to write varied high level materials and present complex topics clearly and succinctly.
    • Capacity to understand and analyze complex information and turn it into accessible messaging and make thoughtful recommendations.
    • Experience executing press events and/or activations; confidence liaising with members of the press and high profile individuals.
    • Strong news sense and analytical skills, ability to anticipate and mitigate potential problems.
    • A nimble approach to complex tasks, with the flexibility to adapt quickly; diligent, organized, with excellent attention to detail in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
    • Team player with a hunger to achieve excellent results; resourceful and proactive with a positive attitude and inclusive style that energizes and mobilizes the team.
    • Confidentiality, discretion and trustworthiness a must.
    • Additional language skills a plus.

    • Must be authorized for employment in NYC.
    • Global Citizen operates on a hybrid work model - 3 days (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) in our NYC office and 2 days (Monday & Friday) telecommuting.
